From The Desk of Dr. Grace
April 2021
Dear Friends,

The weather has been up and down lately, although we’re starting to see the first signs of warm, spring temperatures between the rainy days. It seems like the warmer weather has brightened everyone’s spirits on campus. Teachers also took advantage of the new patio area outside of the Mierley Building this week to allow students to enjoy some fresh air and sunshine during lunch. It’s great to see the kids and staff enjoying time outside once again.

Starting this month, VFES is offering voluntary, weekly COVID testing on campus for staff and a select group of students, such as our senior high school class and VTC students. Additionally, all students, campus-wide, will be eligible for testing if a student develops symptoms during the school day. This free COVID testing opportunity is made possible through our collaboration with The Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania (CHOP) Project ACE-IT. We are very excited to offer Covid testing on-site as it is a safe and effective way to monitor and mitigate the potential for virus spread.

Effective Friday, April 16, VFES lifted its travel restrictions for students and staff. As a result, travel-related testing or quarantining is no longer required. We’re delighted to be getting back to a way of life that helps us relax a bit easier.

On May 11 at 6:30 pm, Adult and Recreation Services (ARS) will host a webinar called Transition @ 21, which will provide information about the transition from post-secondary education to adult services. We will have a supports coordination professional, financial planning team from Merrill Lynch, a special needs attorney and our Director of ARS, Sascha Baello, present helpful, local information about much-needed resources for adults with special needs in our community. Please click here to register for this informative event.

The end of the school year is approaching and we look forward to holding some of our usual activities. Prom will be held on Friday, May 21 at The Radisson Valley Forge Hotel in King of Prussia. Also, our wonderful senior class advisors are busy organizing a senior trip for early June. Details about graduation will be forthcoming.

With the close of this school year on the horizon, we’re most hopeful that the trend toward normalcy continues. As always, thank you for your support.

Please continue to stay safe and enjoy the sights of spring!

Take Care,
Grace A. Fornicola, Ph.D.
