Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you;
    do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
    I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

New International Version (NIV)
               What is your greatest fear?  As a young boy I grew up in a small town in Germany called Schrollbach.  My best friend Ronnie Chartier lived around the corner.  But to get to him I had to go past a ferocious dachshund.  Many times I would get almost there and hear a growl and race home on the cobblestone streets.  I feared him on foot and even when I was riding my bike.  The dog never bit me.

                You don’t have to tell me your greatest fear.  But you really should tell God that you know that he knows.  Isaiah offered hope to the fearful people in exile.  God had chosen them as his servant.  Notice God’s main reason that they should not fear:   God.  Again and again he reassured his people that God himself was with them.  Not only was God with them, but he gladly called himself their God.

                With God’s presence comes his power.  Every time.  He never shows up in our lives ill-equipped.  Best of all, our Sovereign Savior shares his strength.  “I will strengthen you and help you.”  Do not be surprised if when you least expect it, God reaches down and lifts you over your fear, upholding you with his righteous right hand.  Your greatest fear may growl, but it will not bite you.  He promises.

 Pray with me:
Father, you know that we are sometimes quivering masses of cowardice.  After we steel ourselves, and promise that this time will be different, we run right into a snarling fear.  No matter that you are much bigger than the source of the fear.  We quake at the sights and sounds of life’s terrifying events.  Speak to our souls today.  Tell us we are not alone.  Tell us that you are with us and more than enough to conquer our greatest fears.  Hold us in your righteous right hand until the shaking stops.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
  This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
