Psalm 23:5-6
 You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.

New International Version (NIV)
                What is it like to have a relationship with God?  The Lord is a shepherd and we are his sheep.  David has shown us how God guides and provides for his people.  But it is even better than that!

                The Lord is our host and we are his guests.  In a world where we face opposition, he invites us to join him at his table.  We come to an all you can eat buffet of his grace and goodness.  We taste and see that God is good.  He continually refills our cup with grace and peace.  Wait.  It is even better than that.

                The Lord is our Father and he pursues us with his goodness and mercy.  Every time we look around we see his mercies are right there pursuing us.  We cannot escape his love.  And . . . we get to live with him, not just as a sheep with a shepherd or a guest at a meal with the host.  No.  We stay in his house forever.  Jesus said, "In my Father's house are many rooms . . . I go to prepare a place for you."

Pray with me:
Shepherd of Love, thank you for protecting us and guiding us.  Bountiful Host, thank you for inviting us to the feast of your love.  Good, good Father, thank you for inviting us to live life with you forever.  Help us to live with a constant consciousness of your presence today.  You are with us.  Help us to live life with you as our Shepherd, our Host and our Father.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
