"How Was Your Day?"
We all want to hear about our child's day. Parents alike want to know what their children are learning, if new friendships are being formed, what their children are excited or nervous about, what they did at recess, and more. Now, how many of us parents have asked the "How was your day?" question and in return, received a quick "fine" or "ok" as the only response?
For many parents, the information they receive about what’s happening at school ebbs and flows, especially once their kids grow older. Yet even younger children may be reluctant sometimes to share the details of school life.
As new school routines as forming, now is the perfect time to tweak your approach to the "How was your day?" question. We have compiled this list of open-ended questions and tips that hopefully will foster more open lines of communication with your child.  Sometimes, the best way to find out about their day is not to ask "How was your day?".

Germs Go Back to School Too: The Enterovirus Virus
In recent days, there has been a great deal of media coverage about enterovirus D68 (EV-D68). While at this point our school has not been affected, rest assured the School is receiving information directly from the State Health Commissioner and State Epidemiologist. Based on that information, the entire faculty has been briefed on how to respond were a case to appear, as well as on precautionary measures to help reduce the risk of spreading this or any illness. These precautionary measures are simple and good practice all of the time:
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds especially after going to the bathroom, and before eating.

  • Disinfect surfaces such as tabletops, toys and door knobs.

  • Avoid shaking hands, hugging, kissing and sharing utensils with people who are sick.

  • Stay home if you don't feel well.

If your child exhibits signs and symptoms of a common cold but the onset is sudden, and symptoms (coughing and wheezing) worsen quickly, please seek the services of your medical provider prior to sending him/her to school.
Of course, the school will keep you informed if there are developments that impact our students and families.
For more information on this virus, here is a useful link to the Center For Disease Control.
