Some albatross are so small that they can fit in your hand while others can have 3 meter wingspans! Join Ildiko Szabo, Collections Curator for the Cowan Tetrapod Collection in an exploration of these almost mythical wanderer of our imaginations, poetry and the Southern Oceans.
Ildiko will take us behind the scenes today sharing the Beaty’s collections of tubenose (albatross family) specimens live from the museum. Online Museum Collections Tour (ages 5 and up) 60 minutes | Online Tour| Cost $60 including tax
Join us online to virtually explore the six collections that make up the museum: Tetrapods, Marine Invertebrates, Herbarium, Entomology, Fish, and Fossils. Discover stories about BC species, biodiversity research, and different specimens in the collection and how they relate to each other.
This introductory online tour will teach you about some of the different specimens in the collection, and showcase some of our Museum Interpreters’ favourite specimens and stories. After a virtual tour, you will have time to ask questions.
This booking is 60 minutes long. This includes 15 min tech check with facilitator in advance, plus a 45 minute session - composed of a 30 minute virtual tour followed by 15 minute Q&A with a Museum Interpreter.

Welcome to Backyard Biodiversity with Linda Jennings, Herbarium Collections Curator. Since we are all practicing social distancing and staying closer to home this spring and summer (due to COVID-19), Linda wanted to share with you some common plants you might be finding in your Backyard or on short walks around your neighbourhood (in Vancouver British Columbia, Canada). | Farewell to our director Dr. Eric Taylor
In the name of all staff, volunteers, curators, and researchers, we want to thank Rick for all his years of dedication and great leadership of the Beaty Museum over the past 5+ years. It has been a pleasure working with you, and we will miss you!
We welcome Dr. Quentin Cronk, the new Director of the Beaty Museum. Dr. Cronk has published over 140 papers on different aspects of botany, including island biology, plant conservation, plant systematics and evolution, molecular systematics and, more recently, plant evolutionary molecular genetics. He has published several books including “The Endemic Flora of St Helena” (2000) and a book on the evolution of plant development “The Molecular Organography of Plants” (2009).
