A Note from Patient Advocacy Council Co-Chair Kim Pedersen
In this challenging time of social distancing and isolation, I see that we are more together than ever before. We are working as a large team, connecting to share best practices and continuing to demonstrate our commitment to improving the patient experience. We are getting creative, which is not surprising for healthcare administrators and providers who are constantly problem-solving emerging issues. We are spending more time focusing on what connection can look and sound like during these difficult times.
I personally have seen our humanity and caring strengthen as we navigate new challenges. It’s what we do, and we are not giving up on what is best and right for our patients and their families. We are not giving up on supporting each other through this. Below is a short poem that may resonate with many of you and your facility staff. Thank you for continuing the fight for what is right and good even during a time of great crisis.
Uncertain Days
The days are long, our patients scared, but staff show heart by staying there.
To hold a hand, and whisper prayers, to let them know their team does care.
Staff hands are holy, their spirits strong, and they trust each other all day long.
The rooms are cleaned from end to end, safety first, staff do not bend.
The food is given, the soul is healed, and staff and patient bonds are sealed.
The light is here, it’s burning strong, the call was given and we respond.
Our Mission says to give our all, and once again we do not fall.
To us the words are tried and true, you’ll take care of me and I’ll take care of you.
