Dear UWM Planetarium friends,
As I am rehearsing Moons and Myths, I am writing an article for the International Planetarium Society about the value of rehearsal. For the first few years as a planetarium director, I thought intensely about the content of a show and how best to explain the concepts. I worked with designers to make visuals that augmented what I was saying. I am embarrassed to admit that I would review the program and have a live rehearsal only a day or two before our opening.
I have seen the light: Concepts are only part of what people care about. They are just as interested in connecting with me as a person, and I have discovered that presenting to an audience who feels connected to me is much easier and more rewarding. I spend much more time now on how ideas land with audiences.
I hope you enjoy Moons and Myths. I would love to hear your feedback about our presentations at planetarium@uwm.edu.
Hope to see you very soon under the stars,
Jean
