Getting to know your colleague Casey Canevari

Casey Canevari is a current MTA student with over 15 years of professional experience in the travel and tourism industry. At present, Casey serves as the Project Manager for the Indigenous Tourism Collaborative, the first of its kind to link the Indigenous Communities of the Americas with the resources they need to grow and develop their Indigenous tourism products for economic development. Before entering the MTA program, Casey worked at DMO and travel companies (you are welcome to connect with Casey on LinkedIn). Most recently he was Regional Sales Manager for Audley Travel in the Africa department and managed a team that sold over $69 million in outbound trips over 4 years to 9 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. He is an avid outdoorsman and does all things winter sports. He resides outside of Boston with his wife and three boys.

What plans do you have for the winter break?
I am going to take my family skiing a few times in the mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire. I also plan on doing some winter hiking in the White Mountains in New Hampshire on my quest to hike all of the 48 four thousand-foot peaks. I plan on spending a lot of time out in the fresh air of the wilderness all around New England.

What career plan do you have after you complete the MTA Program?
I plan on working with developing nations and underserved communities to help them unlock their potential for development through the promotion of their unique tourism products.

What is an unusual talent that you have?
I know how to safely hike and camp overnight in sub-zero temperatures on mountains. It comes down to the gear that you have!

The mulled wine recipe from Attila Woodward of Jefferson Vineyards:
Add 2 Cups of Jefferson Vineyards Petit Verdot
Add 4 slices of ripe orange. Cut thin and leave the peal on.
Add 2 tablespoons of World Market mulling spices. Alternately you can also add 1 cinnamon stick, 3 cloves and 3 star anise.
Add 1 and 1/2 tablespoon of brown sugar.
Add a 1/4 cup of Mount Gay dark rum.

Bring to a simmer over medium to high heat. Do not boil, otherwise alcohol will evaporate. Cover pot with lid on low fire for 15 minutes.
Cool down, remove all spices and orange. Enjoy immediately.
