Student Focus Groups

To better understand student experiences in the classroom and in Canvas, we invite you to share information with undergraduate and graduate students on upcoming student focus groups on April 16, 12:00-1:00 p.m. virtual session or 12:00-1:00 p.m. in person or 5:00-6:00 p.m. in person session.

Adjunct Survey

Thank you to all the adjuncts who were able to join the adjunct focus groups. If you were unable to attend or have additional comments, we invite current and past adjuncts to complete this brief survey.

Department Spotlight

Starting last Fall, the Department of Political Science began including a high-impact practice or "HIP of the Month" agenda item in their monthly Department meetings. This approach allows faculty to discuss their experiences with that month's HIP, sharing what worked, what did not, relevant resources, and where there might be new ideas related to teaching and learning.

HIPs Tips

Ideas for Using Generative AI in the Classroom

Design AI-connected Authentic Assessments. Provide opportunities for students to critically interact with AI output by creating assignments that require analyzing, evaluating, or improving the outputs from AI tools. For example, students could critique AI-generated essays, find incorrect responses for AI generated test items or prompts, or assess the accuracy and biases in AI-produced research summaries.
Promote Reflective AI Literacy and Ethics. Embed reflective activities that prompt students to consider ethical dimensions, limitations, and implications of AI technology. For example, students might engage in structured reflections or discussions around AI biases, privacy concerns, digital equity, and professional responsibilities in their discipline.

A Hands-On Workshop for Digital Accessibility

Engaging Students in Group Work or Team Work

This interactive session will share practical strategies to create, manage, and assess group work or team-based learning experiences. Register for April 10, 9:00-11:00 a.m.

A Practical Workshop for Generating an Assessment

Dr. Kristen Murphy, Professor and Chair of Chemistry with UWM is offering a workshop in April on creating assessments. The goal is to leave the workshop with a completed plan for one of your next assessments as well as a start on creating it. Register to attend her April 14, 1:00-3:00 p.m. workshop.
