Featured Primary Source

"A shower at last” is a political cartoon depicting the drought relief administered to Great Plains farmers in the 1930s. In addition to drought, insect infestation and dust storms ruined the quality of Americans crops causing an economic depression. After years of devastation that impacted both farmers and migrant workers, families found relief in Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal initiatives. These programs, amongst several others, aimed at protecting the soil and economical relief for workers.
This source meets the 5.51, US. 48, and US. 49 Tennessee social studies standards.
