Miami Design District: Murals on Jade Alley and NE 41st Street
Description:
Onishi Gallery, located in Chelsea, NYC, is honored to participate in Art Miami 2018, noted as “America's modern and contemporary art fair market, globally recognized as a primary destination for the acquisition of the most important works from the 20th and 21st centuries.” At this vibrant affair, Onishi Gallery will represent celebrated Japanese artists whose work exemplifies the ability to bridge historical and cutting-edge creative traditions, familiar and strange imagery, and actual with fantastical geographies.
Two of the artists, Shun Sudo and Yusuke Ochiai, established their fame as Tokyo Street Artists within Japan’s emerging artistic landscape. Their mural arts are lively yet delicate, sophisticated with a touch of “Tokyo chic.” On the occasion of introducing their artwork to US art market for the first time during the Art Basel Miami Beach, Onishi Gallery will organize exciting public art projects in New York and Miami; in New York, their murals will be on view at the High Line in Chelsea at 510 W 27th Street from November 27th, and in Miami, their murals will be realized within the Miami Design District and will be on view from December 4th to greet audiences from all over the world.
This slate of artists will transport viewers across cultural, physical, and metaphysical geographies with their eye-popping, innovative artistic achievements.

Description: The Tampa Museum of Art is pleased to present Yayoi Kusama’s LOVE IS CALLING, one of the artist’s iconic Infinity Rooms, on loan from the Vinik Family Foundation Collection. An immersive, experiential work of art, LOVE IS CALLING invites visitors to enter a mirrored room with tentacle-like soft sculptures hanging from the ceiling and positioned on the floor. These forms glow with changing colors and feature Kusama’s signature polka dots. Mirrored walls create a kaleidoscopic effect, with the reflected imagery of the tentacles seemingly extending into infinite space. Visitors hear audio of the artist reciting a love poem in Japanese as they walk throughout the installation. Yayoi Kusama (Japanese, b. 1929) is one of today’s most recognized and celebrated artists. In addition to her widely popular Infinity Rooms, such as LOVE IS CALLING, Kusama creates vibrant paintings, works on paper, and sculpture with abstract imagery. Her artwork has been shown and collected by leading institutions across the globe and she is considered “the world’s most popular artist.” A comprehensive retrospective, organized by the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC, is currently travelling around the US and Canada. In October 2017, the Yayoi Kusama Museum opened in Tokyo. The artist lives and works in Tokyo.
