Rabbinical School Leadership Team Realigns for the Future
|
|
|
With gratitude and anticipation, Hebrew College is excited to announce our new Rabbinical School leadership team. These changes will take effect on July 1, 2024, as we leverage internal talent, lean into a collaborative leadership model, and continue to evolve our growing ordination program in innovative ways.
Rabbi Daniel Klein`10 will assume the role of Dean of the Rabbinical School. Rabbi Jane Kanarek, PhD (above, middle), will step into the newly created role of Dean of the Faculty. In this position, Rabbi Kanarek will be responsible for overseeing the vision for teaching and learning within the Rabbinical School. Rabbi Gita Karasov`20 (above, right), will step into an expanded role as Dean of Students and Admissions.
"Together, these three talented individuals — working collaboratively in a new leadership model — will allow for Hebrew College’s ordination programs to flourish while maintaining continuity with the school’s culture of belonging and creativity," says Hebrew College President Rabbi Sharon Cohen Anisfeld.

In this painfully divisive time, spiritual and ethical leaders — clergy, educators, organizers — are called to serve as “repairers of the breach" and to respond thoughtfully in this moment to the dangerous divisions in our society. Among the session offerings are:

- LGBTQ+ Inclusion: Navigating Personal, Communal, and Denominational Tensions" with Rev. Dr. Gloria White-Hammond & Rev. Dr. Ray Hammond
- "Pastoring a House Divided: A Conversation with the Chaplain to the U.S. House of Representatives Reverend Dr. Margaret Grun Kibben" with Milling Center Visiting Professor Rev. Dr. Rob Schenck
-
"We Must Build Together: Repairing Our Fractured Society" with Interfaith America Founder & President Dr. Eboo Patel

Being a person of faith is challenging in a variety of ways. One particular challenge that faces those of us in Abrahamic traditions is the inherent tension between living in community among humans and living in relationship to God. We humans are messy, complicated, imperfect creatures. God defies understanding and transcends all limits, expectations, or demands we might attempt to place on God. These are two difficult, unruly forces. Perhaps it would be easier if we could tune out the rest of the world and live our lives one on one as ‘God and me.’ Fewer variables. Fewer complications. But that’s not the way God is. And that’s not the universe God created.
