On behalf of Parking and Commuter Services, welcome to UC San Diego! There are numerous affordable and convenient transportation options available to you as an on-campus resident.
As a general rule, parking is not available for undergraduate campus residents.
While we’ve got lots of options available for helping you get around campus and the community, sometimes a car is indeed the best tool. For those times, Parking and Commuter Services has sponsored membership for you with Enterprise CarShare, meaning that you can rent a vehicle for a low hourly rate that includes fuel, damage/liability protection, maintenance, roadside assistance and up to 200 free miles per day. Vehicles are conveniently located in pods throughout the campus.
To activate your membership, you'll need your driver's license and credit card information. Once you're approved, you'll receive an email with login instructions for the mobile app and website. Members can reserve a car from any of the pods conveniently located throughout the campus using the Enterprise CarShare mobile app, website, or by calling (877) 599-3227.
For more ways to get around campus and the community, explore many efficient and low-impact transportation options outlined in our Transportation Guide for New Tritons. Some highlights pertinent to campus residents include:
Scooters
We strongly discourage bringing personal electric scooters to campus as most brands travel at speeds that exceed state and campus limits. If you will be bringing a bike or scooter, please review campus rules and requirements for micromobility devices.
Shared electric scooters are available across campus through Spin. Students can use the Spin app to conveniently locate, unlock and pay for a ride. Spin offers a discounted Unlock Pass for Tritons, which eliminates the unlock fee for each ride and lower-income students ride for as little as $0.10/minute. Learn more about Spin at UC San Diego.
Public Transit
Through the Triton U-Pass program, UC San Diego students receive unlimited fare-free access to the San Diego region public transit systems, including the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) and the North County Transit District (NCTD) bus routes. Learn more about the U-Pass program and commuting by public transit.
The UC San Diego Blue Line connects the main campus and Health campus to the greater San Diego area. The Central Campus Station stop is conveniently located on the main campus next to the Epstein Family Amphitheater. All MTS Trolley service is included with U-Pass.
On-Campus Shuttles
Students can use Triton Transit shuttles, which provide free transportation on campus and to select off-campus locations. The weekend Grocery Shuttle also connects the main campus to the Clairemont/Convoy shopping area. View a live map of the shuttle routes and stops on the Live Shuttle Tracker or download the TransLoc App for real-time shuttle location information.
Bikes
Make sure and review your housing contract for information about bicycle, scooter and device storage requirements and guidance.
Interested in purchasing an e-bike? University of California affiliates can access extensive discounts on a range of UL certified e-bikes from vendors, including Dirwin, Lectric, Ride1Up and Velotric. See program details.
Whether you ride a bike, skateboard or unicycle, UC San Diego has a network of accessible paths that make micromobility options a great way to get around campus. Read more about our campus micromobility initiatives.
Thieves know that there are lots of bikes and scooters on campus. We offer discounted locks and secured bicycle cages, but theft still happens. Also, be sure and register your bike or device at no cost: see registration details here. We hope you’ll consider leaving your personal bike or scooter at home and using a shared vehicle instead.
FlixBus
Travel easily between San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County and many more destinations with FlixBus’ convenient and affordable bus transportation. UC San Diego students receive a 10% discount. Additionally, check our Instagram and Facebook channels for frequently updated 15% off discount codes.
We've assembled a lot of options to help make life without a personal vehicle easy; however, if you have extenuating circumstances that require you to have a personal vehicle, you may apply for an exception to purchase a parking permit.
