July is Sarcoma Cancer Awareness Month. Sarcoma is a rare cancer that begins in the body's connective tissues, including muscles, fat, bones, tendons, blood vessels, or cartilage.

Because sarcomas can develop almost anywhere in the body, it's important to pay attention to changes that persist or worsen over time. A new or enlarging lump, especially one that is larger than a golf ball or deep beneath the skin, or persistent bone pain that doesn't improve deserves medical attention. She's running to help more firefighters gain the skills and confidence to recognize changes in their health that need evaluation and take action sooner.
