register to join us for the 2017 president's dinner

The entire Brebeuf Jesuit community is invited to join Father Jack Dennis, S.J. to celebrate and honor Tom and Melissa Pence as the 2017 President’s Medal Recipients. The celebration will take place on November 9, 2017 at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
As leaders in the Indianapolis community and supportive parents of Andrew, Jennifer, Samuel, Danae, Naomi, Tallal, and two grandchildren Noah and Remy, Tom and Melissa have demonstrated a deep commitment to Jesuit education through role model worthy volunteer involvement in their community, children's lives, and in support of the students, faculty and staff at Brebeuf Jesuit.
Tom served as a Brebeuf Jesuit Trustee from 2009-2016 where he chaired the Investment Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, College Counseling Task Force Committee and was a member of the Finance Committee. Together, Tom and Melissa are Magis Society members, have established an endowed scholarship fund to support financial aid, and supported the Kite Wellness Center and Leading the Way capital campaigns with leadership gifts.
In addition to the traditional awarding of the President’s Medal, we will also bestow the Heart of Brebeuf award on Father Paul Peterson, S.J. Fr. Paul first came to Brebeuf Jesuit in 1966, just four years after the school’s founding. In 1971, Fr. Paul left Brebeuf Jesuit to teach at Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles and Fairfield University in Connecticut. He returned to Brebeuf as a math teacher from 1999 to 2001, before departing for two years to serve parishes in Kentucky. He returned to Brebeuf Jesuit in 2003 to once again serve the school community.
Fr. Paul remains engaged in the Brebeuf Jesuit community, offering opening prayer at athletic events, attending school concerts and performances, conducting Mass and serving as the school’s alumni chaplain. He keeps himself physically and mentally fit with regular visits to the Wellness Center, writing poetry and playing the violin, which he began learning at age 50. Father Paul celebrated his 90th birthday on September 26th.

KNOW A STUDENT WHO WOULD MAKE A GREAT FUTURE BRAVE?

Brebeuf Jesuit has enrolled some of its most promising students with the help of our alumni, parents, and friends. Among applications received each year, some of the strongest come from those who are already familiar with all that Brebeuf has to offer, while others come due to our community sharing their experiences and encouraging those around them to explore Brebeuf.
To this end, if you know a promising student who would excel in our dynamic community, please encourage them to register for a Brave Day Shadow Visit, Attend our Open House on November 5, explore Brebeuf.org/admissions or contact Liz Otteson, Director of Admissions!

Loves About Brebeuf
I hate to repeat what most people say, but I really love the community and family aspect of Brebeuf. I came from a public middle school so being given such a warm welcome at Brebeuf was really refreshing my freshman year. I know that if I ever needed anything I could go to faculty or students at Brebeuf, I could truly go to anyone and they would support me. You can’t walk down the halls during a passing period without at least 2 people saying hi or smiling at you.
Favorite Class
I’ve enjoyed a lot of my classes during my time at Brebeuf, but AP Psychology with Mr. Petty last year was great. I really enjoyed the people in my class and also the interactive activities that we did. I am also really looking forward to Life Skills with Ms. Watko second semester this year!
Future Plans
Right now I am not sure where I want to go for college. I am hoping to go somewhere out of Indiana, maybe on the west coast. Wherever I choose, I plan to study psychology and potentially become a social worker.

Random Facts
I have two older sisters, and Izzy, who is two years older than me, hit me in the head with a golf club when I was 11. I surprisingly did not have a concussion and did not need any stitches.
I’m taller than both of my sisters.
I’ve taken a tour of the White House.
I’m obsessed with Christmas.
What is your current favorite show or series on tv, Netflix, etc?
Ah that’s a tough choice. I think my favorite would have to be How I Met Your Mother or Hart of Dixie.
If you could travel to any place in the world, where would you go and why?
Probably Fiji or Australia. Both places are beautiful and I really like the beach. They also look incredibly relaxing.
What advice would you offer our Braves in the Class of 2021?
Take everything in as you go. High school moves incredibly fast and although it can be really stressful, it’s really fun. And take advantage of everything Brebeuf has to offer right now. Go in and see your teachers, go on the trips during spring break and the summer, and appreciate Brebeuf while you’re there!

Important Reminder for Seniors
Students must submit their test scores. Test scores can be sent directly from College Board or the ACT Website. If you have questions, please stop in the College Counseling Office’s “Curbside College Counseling” from 3:15-4:00 p.m. any day between now and the deadline, October 31. Counselors are also available to meet for drop-in meetings during any PRT. If you need a longer meeting, please see your counselor to schedule an appointment.
College Rep Visits
See below for a list of schools visiting Brebeuf next week. Note that students must register to attend in Naviance.
October 27 - University of Miami and Gettysburg College
October 30 - Washington and Lee University and Oberlin College
October 31 - Connecticut College and Manchester University
Students must register to attend these visits. The list of colleges visiting and registration can be found in Naviance under the “Colleges” tab. If you have questions please contact Kelly Shank at kshank@brebeuf.org.
Important College Financial Information
The FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid - is the form all colleges ask students to file to determine what kind of financial assistance a student might be eligible for. The FAFSA opened on October 1 at www.fafsa.gov and should be completed as soon as possible.  You can start the process now by creating your Federal Student Aid (FSA) IDs - one for the student and one for a parent - at www.fafsa.gov. These will be your IDs the entire time the student is in college, so keep it’s important to keep track of them.

What is the Interfaith Prayer Group?

We strive to create an inviting place to explore similarities vs differences across faiths; to facilitate discussions of varying faith traditions; to foster an understanding and appreciation of our different faiths through education, sharing and fellowship; and to explore different dimensions of our own faiths, in a safe and sacred place.

Most Interfaith Prayer Group meetings are held the last Tuesday of the month from 8:30-9:30 a.m. We request that you arrive just a few minutes early so we can get started on time.
