Donate to the Brebeuf Food Drive!

How to Help

To contribute to the drive, send any canned food items to Brebeuf Jesuit with a Brebeuf student, who will deliver the items to their homeroom collection. To contribute monetarily (Make checks out to: St. Vincent de Paul, memo: Food Pantry), bring donations of support to the front lobby desk at Brebeuf Jesuit.

By coming together during this food drive, the entire Brebeuf Jesuit community can make an incredible difference in the lives of thousands in need here in Indianapolis! Let’s bring in those cans to your student’s homeroom and support St. Vincent de Paul’s food pantry.

Student Spotlight

RACHEL HONESTO '16
Loves about Brebeuf:
The first thing that comes to mind that I love about Brebeuf is the schedule. I have free time to do what I need to do, especially when taking hard classes, and there’s time to talk to teachers. I also really like the teachers. The teachers are friendly and they understand our workload so they work with students to help us do our best.
Favorite Class:
Overall, my favorite class has been Painting 1 with Mr. Cancilla. I was really bad at painting but by working with Mr. Cancilla I’ve been able to better my skills. This year my favorite class has been Science and Religion with Mr. King. The class and Mr. King have provided me with perspectives on things I’ve never really thought about before such as space and robots and how those things relate to religion compared to science.
Future Plans:
I applied to 11 schools so I’m still deciding where to go. I really want to study anything in the science field, especially environment science. I think I would like to study something having to do with the environment too. I’m unsure of my career path but I’m hoping to figure that out once at college because it will give me a new perspective and different options for careers I may not have thought about before.
Teams & Co-Curriculars:

Girls Lacrosse Team
Random Acts of Kindness
GSA
Presidential Ambassador
National Honor Society
Random Fact:
I’ve gone on three Brebeuf Trips including the Pine Ridge Cultural Immersion in South Dakota, El Salvador over spring break, and Hawaii over the summer for Marine Science.
Is Brebeuf as academically rigorous as they say?
I would say yes Brebeuf is academically rigorous but in certain ways. I think it all depends on whether or not you stay on top of your work. Classes are tough but it’s harder if you are not on top of your work. Academics can be challenging but I think any Brebeuf student can handle it. I’m taking an accelerated Pre-Calculus class and though in the past I’ve been pretty good at math, this year has been difficult. I’ve seen my professor more often than usual but it’s helped a lot with the challenges. Other challenges for students might be taking AP courses or not deciding to go see teachers, so you need to be willing to get in the process of doing work. I use my assignment notebook a lot and do homework before I do anything else to keep up with everything. It’s important to get into a habit of getting the work done.
Would you rather…
Would you rather go without your sense of taste or smell for year?
I would rather go without my sense of smell because there are so many different foods I wouldn’t be able to taste in that one year and would want to.
Win the lottery or live twice as long?
I would rather live twice as long because I would be to see all the new technology and see so much more than I would be able to in one lifetime and I could experience those things.
Meet an alien visitor or travel to outer space?
I would rather meet the alien here because I could show him or her around. Plus space is kind of scary and I wouldn’t want to wear the space suit.
Go to the movie theater or stay home with Netflix?
I would rather stay home with Netflix because I could wear my pajamas, eat whatever I want and watch more than just a two hour movie.
Talk to animals or speak five foreign languages?
I would rather speak five languages so I could travel to different places where people speak those languages and be able to understand everyone.

Brebeuf Students Donate Hundreds of Stuffed Toys to IMPD for Kids in Need

Before Thanksgiving, Ms. Manton’s daughter Hannah, and her brother, Dylan, donated two bags of their gently used stuffed animals to Brebeuf Jesuit’s School Resource Officer, Officer Wooten. Officer Wooten and other IMPD officers keep stuffed animals in the back of their cars to give to children to ease the anxiety they feel during traumatic situations. After Christmas Break, Officer Wooten told Ms. Manton that he had already gone through the two bags that were donated.
Upon hearing the news that the original toys had been handed out, Hannah organized a drive at her school, and Ms. Manton asked her students at Brebeuf Jesuit to join up and help out.

The result was amazing! Brebeuf Jesuit students collected over 450 stuffed animals to combine with the more than 200 that Hannah and her after-school program collected!

Brebeuf Teacher Rosina Khan Selected to Serve on Indiana Department of Education's Advisory Council

Brebeuf Jesuit Latin Teacher Rosina Khan has been selected to serve on the Indiana Department of Education’s Global Learning Advisory Council. The Office of College and Career Readiness, in conjunction with the Office of English Learning and Migrant Education, created this Global Learning Advisory Council (GLAC).
The council is comprised of world language educators, teachers of varied contents, and community leaders to create and build statewide awareness of global learning and establish a voice and strategic plan for engagement throughout Indiana. The council will discuss ways to implement global learning initiatives to support schools and their missions and provide high-quality internationalized curriculum. “It’s an opportunity to encourage and influence language learning on a large-scale within Indiana. It’s a great honor for me”, said Rosina Khan.

Mothers Association Day of Reflection

All Brebeuf mothers are invited to the 2016 Mothers Association Day of Reflection: Choosing your Spiritual Word of the Year.
A growing spiritual practice is that of choosing one word to focus on during the year to pray about and live by. During this Day of Reflection, you'll be introduced to the concept of choosing your spiritual word, participate in a guided reflection exercise, and have the opportunity to explore your chosen word using a variety of artistic expression. Join other Brebeuf moms on this journey of discovery of "your" word that will help serve as your spiritual compass toward a wholehearted life.

It provides “prayer cards” for some Jesuit prayers as well as the opportunity to download the JesuitPrayer App. One of the prayer cards is a prayer attributed to St. Ignatius of Loyola that addresses anxiety and depression. This seems fitting in light of our community conversations related to student stress.
2. The Ignatian Solidarity Network offers the program “Lift Every Voice: A Lenten Journey Toward Racial Justice http://ignatiansolidarity.net/lent-2016/. This is be a nice way to continue to reflect on our community conversations related to privilege, diversity and inclusion.
3. Loyola Press sponsors a website called http://www.ignatianspirituality.com which has many Lenten resources to enjoy. While there are many great resources, please highlight the Ignatian Workout for Lent Retreat.
4. Finally, Creighton University’s Online Ministry Office offers a tremendous number of Lenten resources http://onlineministries.creighton.edu/.
