Library Science's Dr. Rose Brock Nationally Recognized |
COE extends the biggest congratulations to our very own Dr. Rose Brock for being recognized as a Library Journal Mover & Shaker! This is a national recognition awarded to library professionals who are making an impact in the field.
Rose Brock, Associate Professor of Library Science at Sam Houston State University, has dedicated more than a decade to connecting authors, educators, and young readers through her work as cofounder (with Kristin Treviño) of the North Texas Teen Book Festival (NTTBF). Since launching in 2015, the festival has connected over 15,000 readers and 75 authors annually—with an even wider reach in the years the festival went virtual. Presented at no cost to attendees, it removes financial barriers to literary engagement. The idea of building a book festival for kids “seemed ambitious,” Brock recalls, “but with 20 years of experience as an educator, I was confident that with the right marketing and buy-in from educators and librarians, developing what I saw as a destination literary field trip was absolutely doable.”

Dr. Stacey Edmonson's Final Dean's Quote of the Week |
"You, exactly who you are right now, always have the ability to make a difference in the lives of others. It's an opportunity that is uniquely yours, and no one can take it from you. It's also a choice. What you do matters, every single day. May you always recognize and value that ability, that opportunity, that choice for what it is - the power to make the world a better place, one person at a time."
-Dr. Stacey Edmonson

Volunteer Opportunity: Veterans Breakfast at HEARTS Museum
|
The HEARTS Veterans Museum is looking for volunteers to help support their monthly Veterans Breakfast on Saturday, May 2. Held the first Saturday of every month, this event provides veterans with a warm meal, meaningful conversation, and a strong sense of community.
Volunteers are needed to help welcome guests, assist with serving breakfast, and create a friendly, respectful environment for local veterans to connect and share their stories. This is a great opportunity for individuals or groups who want to give back and make a direct, positive impact on those who have served.
