Prepare for your student's New Student Conference!

Important information for your upcoming NSC.

Howdy New Aggie Family Member,

We hope you are excited for your student's Texas A&M New Student Conference (NSC)! We have some helpful information as you and your student prepare. To start, a few days ago, your student received an email communication from our office with information detailing vital steps they need to complete to ensure a smooth NSC experience.

Additional emails related to the NSC will be sent out by our office and your student’s academic unit; please ensure your student is reviewing this information and completing any necessary items. You can find a copy of the emails sent by our office at: tx.ag/NSCemails.

Parking:

All students receive a parking permit as a part of their NSC registration. To ensure the NSC parking permit is issued, your student will need to upload the license plate information through applicant.tamu.edu > NSC Parking Permit at least three business days before the NSC. If your family is unsure about the car you’ll bring, use your license plate as a placeholder. Once you have the license plate of the car you will be bringing to your student's NSC, they can log on to transport.tamu.edu to add the vehicle and its license plate to the NSC permit and make it the primary vehicle.

View the included NSC Parking Permit Lots at: NSC Parking Map. The West Campus Garage is the most convenient option for Day 1. Upon arrival, you will not need to swipe into West Campus Garage, your license plate is your parking permit during the NSC.

Check-In:

Check-In is mandatory for all NSC participants and will take place on Tuesday, May 20, from 8:15-9:15 a.m. in the Memorial Student Center. Your student must be present for check-in. We are unable to check your student in without them present.

Schedule:

After check-in, Day 1 programs will begin at 9:30 a.m. and conclude at 4:05 p.m. Optional sessions at the end of Day 1 will run until around 5 p.m. Day 2 will begin at 8:30 a.m., and will include academic unit meetings, advising, and course registration. Specific details for Day 2 will be coordinated by your student's academic unit. Visit our website to view a sample schedule for NSCs at tx.ag/SampleSchedule.

Course Registration:

Your student will register for classes at 2 p.m. on Day 2 of the NSC. You can find more information about what to expect for Course Registration at: What to expect for course registration during the New Student Conference.

THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOUR NSC

There are many actions items that your student must take care of before their New Student Conference. Details on some of these items can be found below, but we recommend having your student check their Howdy Portal for any holds that will keep them from registering for classes at the NSC. Taking care of these prior to arrival will ensure the smoothest NSC experience. Learn more about checking registration holds by visiting the Aggie One Stop website.

Complete Online Orientation

All incoming students are required to finish Online Orientation before their NSC. There is an optional guest track in Online Orientation. Follow the link below and follow the onscreen instructions.

Submit Bacterial Meningitis Immunization Documents

Ensure your student uploads proof of vaccination against bacterial meningitis to MedProctor. The meningitis deficiency hold must be resolved before checking in at the NSC and registering for classes.

Tuition Rate Code Selection

If your student is a Texas resident, they must select a tuition rate code through the Howdy Portal before course registration. Learn more about tuition rate codes through the Aggie One Stop website.

The weather may be hot and humid during your NSC. We recommend wearing comfortable clothes and walking shoes as you will be traveling around campus. Additionally, campus classrooms, meeting rooms, and auditoriums tend to be chilly, so we suggest bringing a light jacket. Don’t forget to check the weather forecast in advance as a rain jacket or umbrella may be necessary.

The Memorial Student Center (MSC) is a living memorial and tribute to Aggies who lost their lives in wars past, present, or future. As a memorial, those entering the building are asked to remove their hats. Those walking outside are asked not to walk on the grass surrounding the facility, as a sign of respect to fallen Aggies.
