SPORTS RECAP - WEEK OF DECEMBER 4

Playing their first game of the season on Wednesday, a loss to an older Stoneleigh Burnham team, the girls' basketball team showed signs of grit and strength as a whole. They were led by Eliza B with 6 points and 10 rebounds, and Ruby C with 4 points and 4 steals. The boys' basketball team also had their first game of the season on Wednesday, playing BART at home. BART won the game 47-16, relying on strong perimeter shooting and suffocating defense. Nathaniel B-O played nearly every minute of the game and led the team with 8 points and several steals. Amun P finished with 6 points, earning 4 of those points at the free throw line. Grayson R also scored 2 points. The team played hard, with several Aardvarks playing in their first ever full basketball game.

Summer Internship Opportunities

In its third year, The Academy Summer Internship Program seeks to place high school students in one- to two-week, unpaid internships in businesses around the area. This is a great opportunity for students to:
  • Explore possible career interests,
  • Gain some working experience,
  • Build networking skills with professionals
Any curious student should fill out the interest form and return it to Dr. Bloomfield by December 15.
COMMUNITY SERVICE COUNCIL PROJECTS

Items donated to the Community Service Council's annual Coat Drive and Mitten Tree projects will be delivered to Enlace de Familias, a grassroots organization in Holyoke that's working to help new members of the Puerto Rican community resettling in the city post-Hurricane Maria. Coat Drive and Mitten Tree donations should include clean (with no stains, holes, or rips) coats, jackets, and snow pants (for children and adults), and mittens, gloves, hats and scarves. Please continue to send in these items though December 15.
The Community Service Council is also initiating a fundraiser to support NuDay Syria, through the Interfaith Council of Franklin County. NuDay offers support, both financially and through the shipment of food and personal items to the hundreds of thousands of displaced people within Syria. The organization sends supplies in large container trucks through Northern Turkey. Donation jars will be available at our Winter Concert, and the campaign will continue after Winter Break. Thanks for your help in supporting this worthwhile cause.
