Dear Parents and Families,
In just a few weeks, your Jumbo will be moving into their residence hall!
When you arrive to check-in, both you and your student will receive a printed schedule for the day’s events. Your student will also receive their Tufts ID and, if applicable, the key to their residence hall room.
Programs for parents and families on move-in days can be viewed in advance online. It is not necessary to RSVP to attend programs for parents and families during move-in, but if you haven’t already done so, please take our brief survey to let us know which events you plan to attend.
In addition to move-in day events, you are invited to attend the Matriculation Ceremony on Thursday, August 28 at 10 a.m. ET. If you can’t attend in person, the ceremony will be livestreamed, and a link will be available on the Orientation website.
Please note: The ceremony is held outdoors on the Academic Quad. In case of inclement weather, the event will move indoors. However, the indoor venue has limited capacity and can only accommodate students. Families who are on campus will be directed to nearby indoor spaces to watch a livestream of the ceremony.

Arrival, Check-in, and Parking |
-
If your student is moving into the Medford/Somerville campus, your first stop will be the Joyce Cummings Center (JCC), at 177 College Avenue, Medford. Please check in there before heading to your student’s residence hall to move them in. If you’re arriving by car, staff will be on hand at the JCC to direct you to the appropriate parking area.
-
If your student is moving into the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) campus, please begin your day at 1047 Beacon Street in Brookline. Once your student is settled into their residence at Beacon Street, you’re encouraged to head to the Medford/Somerville campus to participate in parent and family programming. There will also be activities available for students. Parking is available at the Dowling Parking Garage, at 419 Boston Avenue, Medford.
-
If your student is moving in on August 22 for a Pre-Orientation program, please plan to arrive during the specific time window assigned to your student according to their Pre-O program. These timed arrivals help ensure a smooth and efficient move-in process, minimizing wait times and long lines. Individual Pre-O programs will be in touch with your student with their program schedule for move in day.
- Additonal information about travel to campus, arrival, and parking is available online.

Professional Movers, Labeling Boxes, and Facilities Requests |
-
Professional movers will be available to help students unload and move in on August 22 and August 27. To expedite the unloading process, please make sure your student’s belongings—such as boxes, plastic totes, and suitcases—are clearly labeled with the following information:
|
- Student’s first and last name
- Building and room number
- Cell phone number
|
- We'll also have labels and markers available at each residence hall if you’re not able to label items before your arrival.
-
If your student has questions or requests related to their residence hall or facilities-related requests regarding their room after they move in, please look for Residential Life staff. They will be visible on campus (in the residence halls and at check-in) wearing staff T-shirts, or “Tufts” polo shirts in black, white, or blue.
- If you have other questions, please call Student Services at 617-627-2000.
