We had so much fun celebrating Family Weekend with you all! We make lots of notes each year to adjust and improve and are working on making 2025 even better. We can’t wait to see you next year and hope to celebrate with a football "W" and weather as equally fantastic as this year! If you didn’t pick up your check-in packet and family gift, send your student to the 1855 Place Welcome Desk no later than Wednesday, Nov. 27 to pick it up. They will no longer be available after that day.
Speaking of weather, we know these mild temperatures won’t last, so here’s a quick nod to the winter weather to come. Your student will need a warm coat, hat, hand covers and waterproof boots. Remind them to dress in layers (the buildings get hot with steam heat!), and our gloomy mid-Michigan skies call for bright, reflective clothing — even the reflective tape that can be added is helpful on those dark, wet mornings and nights. We also know not every student has the means for these items. If so inclined, consider giving to the MSU Support Our Spartans fund, which provides students with immediate financial support to cover educational costs and unanticipated expenses.
Hopefully your student is already working on their spring semester enrollment plan. They have assigned enrollment times (which were emailed to them and can also be found in SIS) until Nov. 11 when everyone can adjust, as desired. They can continue to adjust their schedule until Jan. 17, when the semester course-add period ends. Spring semester billing will be available Jan. 9 and due Feb. 1.
And finally, I want to wish each of you a restful Thanksgiving holiday. If your student is staying on campus, remind them to join the 22nd Annual Homiesgiving Unity Dinner Thursday, Nov. 28 presented by Office of Cultural and Academic Transitions. It’s an opportunity to share a free meal (kosher, halal, vegetarian, and gluten-free options available!) with those staying on campus and celebrate the blessings of the season. Students can RSVP for the dinner here. To those whose students are returning home for a quick break before finals, enjoy the time together. Don’t be surprised if you see some changes in your student, and maybe prepare for those changes by viewing the previously recorded Togetherness: Preparing for Break webinar prior to their return home.
We are so thankful for each of you and the support you give your Spartan.
Take care and Go GREEN,
Laurin

Residence Hall Winter Break Information
As the winter break approaches, we want to ensure a smooth transition for our residents. Students not staying on campus during the break must leave the residence halls by 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13. Please note, your student does not have to move everything out of their room for winter break — their belongings can remain in their rooms for their return in January. Students should take anything they may need over a break, as hall access will be limited.
For those students who require late stay or early arrival, they will soon be able to request a late stay or early arrival in their My Housing account

Amazon Lockers
We’re excited to announce that Amazon Lockers are being installed in Brody, Holden and Owen halls! These convenient lockers will provide your students with a secure way to receive Amazon packages.
When the lockers are online, if spaces are available, you’ll see this option during your Amazon checkout. You can still choose to have packages sent directly to your students' address and use the regular delivery process if you prefer or if the lockers are full.

FAFSA Information
The 2025-26 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is expected to be available Dec. 1 at fafsa.gov. Completing this application each year ensures students are eligible for any student financial aid that requires the FAFSA, including federal student loans. If students are completing the FAFSA for the first time or will be a new Contributor, we highly recommend setting up the required FAFSA ID before Dec. 1, as it can take up to three days to process.

Enrollment is Open Soon for Spring Buy Ahead Dining Plans
Culinary Services will offer off-campus students who previously purchased a Buy Ahead Dining Plan (and those who want to add a plan to their account) the option to repurchase beginning Monday, Nov. 18 through Wednesday, Dec. 11. Participants must purchase a Buy Ahead Plan for the spring semester to keep their locked-in rate through graduation. Enrollment will be online through student's My Housing account. These students will receive an email with an active link for the Buy Ahead Program Nov. 18. If a student has not signed up previously or has not purchased a plan consecutively each semester, they must sign a new Buy Ahead contract for spring 2025 at this year’s rates.

Bottom line? MSU students report stress, anxiety and sleep difficulties are their top three impediments to academic performance, which mirrors what college students across the nation say. Need support? University Health and Wellbeing is here to help!
