September Trustee Update – Welcome back
We are a few weeks in now, and I will admit to finding it hard to balance between frustration and hope this new school year.
Because we all want our public education system to be better.
As an elected trustee I want all children to experience the joys of acceptance, belonging, and learning. I want education workers to feel supported and valued – the working conditions are our children’s learning conditions! And I want all of our diverse communities in Toronto to feel safe, welcome and affirmed at our public schools.
But there are real challenges to achieving all of this, and it is unrealistic to be asking schools to do more with less. I would encourage you to read the Local’s new education series by Wency Leung: Failing Our Students | The Local and take action through Fundourschool.ca Fund Our Schools
While it can feel overwhelming, we cannot give up on advocating for the ideals of public education and the resources needed to achieve it.
I will keep working to represent our community, and I will keep advocating for better. Our kids – all of our kids – deserve nothing less.
Take care,
Sara Ehrhardt
