The program featured alumni who work within the Los Angeles Unified School District (Mike Romero, MA '97; Tamisha Donald, MA '04; Amen Rahh, BA '08, Credential Level I '10, Credential Level II '13, MA '15; Gilbert Viveros, MA '06; and Rhiannon Chavez , Credential '14), discussing their workplace duties and the techniques they used to elevate themselves within the organization.

On November 9, alumnus Jairo Mejia (BS, '16) hosted 4 students interested in pursing careers in finance for dinner via Zoom. The students received their meals through online food delivery services, sponsored by the host, and partook in fun and engaging experiences with Mr. Mejia to gain a perspective on what to expect working in finance and accounting. Jairo Mejia is a Senior Financial Analyst with 5 years of experience working with Warner Bros.

CLASS NOTES
Recent accomplishments of fellow Toros.
Mahabub Alam (BS '92) retired from CSUDH in November, 2021, after 28 years of dedicated service to the Toro community. Mahabub worked his way up from student assistant to network analyst, and his leadership and knowledge will be missed in the Division of Information Technology.   
Joseph Banfield (BA '75), a long-time teacher at Saint Anthony High School in Long Beach, was recently named a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction by the National Society of High School Scholars.
Wendi Dunlap (MA '10) released her debut album, Looking For Buildings, on Futureman Records in October, 2021. The album was recorded remotely during the pandemic, with performers on multiple continents. Wendi wrote 9 of the album’s 11 songs.
Harmony Frederick (BA '07) returned to CSUDH as executive assistant to the vice president for student affairs and manager of strategic initiatives. She most recently served as the Director of Alumnx and Family Engagement at the California Institute of the Arts. 
Deshawn Radden (BS '17) is a medical student and a current contestant on Season 41 of the CBS TV series Survivor. As of publication, Radden has outlasted most of the other contestants, and is one of the final eight contestants with a chance to win.
Daniel Ralph (MA '08) released The Scorpion’s Song, a work of philosophical fiction set in the days leading up to the beginning of the Gulf War. The book combines stories about life in a theater of operations with mini-Socratic dialogues.  
Carol Velas (MS '05) is the founding director of the new accelerated bachelor of science in nursing program at Westmont College in Santa Barbara. A registered nurse for 35 years, Velas will start welcoming students to the program in January, 2022.    
IN MEMORIAM
Christian Mendoza (MA '21) died in a car accident on Tuesday, Nov. 23. He was an instructor in CSUDH’s Teacher Education Division and supervised bilingual teacher candidates. In October, Mendoza had started a new position as principal of Bennett-Kew P-8 Leadership Academy in Inglewood. He began his career at Highland Elementary School, and worked for the last nine years as an English Language Learner specialist in Lennox Unified School District, where his commitment to English Language Learners was evident.
