ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE EXAM
Notify your parents/guardians, teachers, coaches, and employers of your AP exam date(s). It is possible that your AP exam(s) will extend beyond the regular school day. Please understand that students will not be dismissed from an exam early for any reason, including, but not limited to, work-related obligations, athletic/performing arts practice, games, competitions, and medical appointments.
THE NIGHT BEFORE THE EXAM
Gather an “AP Exam Kit” containing the following items:
- Several No. 2 pencils (Pencils with slightly dull points fill the ovals better; mechanical pencils are NOT permitted.)
- A few pens with black or dark blue ink (for the free-response questions)
- Erasers
- A watch (as long as it doesn’t have Internet access, have an alarm, or make noise)
- Your 6-digit school code (151653). This will also be provided for you on exam day.
- Student ID
Make sure that you don’t bring anything that is not allowed in the exam room (only pencils, pens, and a water bottle are allowed at your desk; water bottles must remain on the ground beside your chair).
Relax. Read a good book, take a hot shower, watch something you’ll enjoy. Get a good night’s sleep. Go to bed early and leave yourself extra time in the morning.
THE MORNING OF THE EXAM
- Wake up on time. Set multiple alarms if you need to.
- Eat breakfast. Make it something substantial, but nothing too heavy or greasy.
- Plan ahead for the inevitability of slow traffic and/or needing to park to walk to your testing room.
- Dress in layers so that you can adjust to the temperature of the testing room; no blankets will be permitted in the testing room.
- Read something. Warm up your brain with a newspaper or a magazine. You shouldn’t let the exam be the first thing you read that day.
- Check-in will begin at 7:45 a.m. Be sure to get there early. Again, allow yourself extra time for traffic.
- The proctor will check you in and direct you to find your seat. Please have your Student ID ready. Student seating is assigned randomly; not in alphabetical order. NO CELL PHONES, SMART WATCHES, OR EARPODS WILL BE PERMITTED IN THE TESTING ROOM.
- The exam will start at 8:00 a.m.
