A Word From Mr. Martin

Dear Parents,

I was recently reading a book titled ‘The Speed of Trust’ by Steven Covey and read a story of parenting and how our children value what we reinforce with them. Only a matter of days later, I was at my men’s bible study group and we heard a very similar story in the clip we were watching from Christian leadership expert, John Maxwell. The story, in summary, went like this: A high school student came home one evening to tell his parents of an ‘F’ he
received for a recent Math test. He didn’t expect his parents to care, especially his father, who had shown no interest in his son’s academic life, but to his surprise, his father was very disappointed. His father had regularly celebrated football wins and basketball successes with dinners and presents, but never celebrated an ‘A’ or even ‘B’ in any class. His parents had conditioned their son, inadvertently, that the only thing that matters is athletics. It was little wonder that their son placed a higher priority on going to social functions, athletics and relaxing than doing his schoolwork and succeeding academically.

Prayer Events

Prayer at the Pole: Join us on November 22, and December 6 from 7:45-8:00am at the LCA flag pole as we pray through the elements of our spiritual theme "Great is Your Faithfulness."

Mom's Prayer Project: On Wednesday, November 20 at 8:30am join us in the Gray Chapel as we gather to pray. Prayer is simply communication. Through prayer we will share what is on our heart with Jesus. During prayer time we will talk and listen. Transformation happens within ourselves and others as we move to develop a more intimate prayer relationship with Jesus.

The beautiful color of the leaves reminds us of how great and majestic our loving God is. He has a way in his infinite wisdom of creating beauty and giving us opportunities to see him through creation. As the leaves turn colors and fall to the ground, it’s a great time to reflect on where you have been and rejoice for where you are headed. The beauty he creates and allows us to enjoy is a gift; will you pause and take a moment to thank God for his creativity? Will you pause long enough to see his handiwork in the beauty of the leaves? We have a faithful and loving God!

Costa Rica Sun & Service

Join Ms. Jobe and Mrs. Rogers on a trip to experience the culture and natural splendor of Costa Rica from June 14-24, 2020. This immersive, service-learning trip includes sightseeing, exploring gorgeous natural settings, and helping others by serving in a community. Your service time can count towards your needed service hours for graduation. We will be holding an informational meeting on November 13 at 7:00pm in the art room (#351). The Costa Rica Sun & Service trip is open to all LCA 2019-20 high school students, parents, and alumni. Students are invited to sign up through November 21 using this link.
