Introducing Mammo To Answers:
A Faster Process For Women In Our Community

Earlier this month, we proudly launched the Mammo to Answers program in partnership with Marci Dickerson and Cancer Warriors. This new program is aimed at streamlining the process and reducing the time from mammogram to diagnosis for patients. The idea for this program emerged during the last Cancer Warriors Week in October, and the time from then to now represents a lot of hard work from many people.
This expedited breast health diagnostic program begins when patients come to MMC's Women's Imaging Center for a mammogram, but now, through this program, we are able expedite screenings that have unusual findings to a breast ultrasound to better detect if a breast biopsy is needed.

MMC is already an established leader in women's imaging, and the Mammo to Answers program gives patients faster results and is an important step in improving how we care for our community.

New, Cutting-Edge Technology Now Available

To meet the evolving needs of those we serve, we recently added two new types of technology to our imaging and radiation therapy services.

512-Slice CT (pictured at left): Imaging Services recently installed a top-of-the-line 512-slice CT scanner machine that now serves patients daily. The newly installed equipment represents a $2.7 million investment and is one of the fastest and most powerful units in the industry. This scanner allows our caregivers to obtain quicker and more accurate diagnostic imaging and improve outcomes for patients. CT scans are used to diagnose an array of injuries and diseases, including heart disease, stroke, cancer, bone fractures, and blood clots.

HDR Brachytherapy (pictured at right): More recently, at the end of March, our radiation therapy team at Memorial Radiation Oncology completed the first high-dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy treatment with the state-of-the-art Varian Bravos system. Brachytherapy, also known as internal radiation therapy, offers a precise form of radiation therapy and has been highly effective at treating several types of cancer, including gynecological, lung, breast, and prostate.

We are very pleased to be providing new cancer treatment and expanded imaging services to patients across our region who come to us for care.

Continuing Our Community Outreach And Events

We are pleased to continue hosting the Rio Grande Honor Flight preflight meetings and serving as the departure location. Mission 19 will depart from our hospital in the early morning hours of April 24th. This important event provides regional veterans with the opportunity to visit Washington D.C. We are proud to host and support this event in honor of our nation’s veterans.
Memorial Medical Center also took home the trophy for the largest team at the annual Run With Your Doc Race to support Amador Health Center. With 79 runners and walkers participating, it was a great time being active in historic Mesilla – thank you to everyone who supported the event!
Lastly, we also continue to host our free provider-led education seminars for community members. During Colon Cancer Awareness Month in March, we hosted a well-attended event where Elia Charbel Abboud, MD, FACS, FASCRS, and Sarah Plante-Oliva, DNP, FNP-BC, shared valuable insights on colorectal cancer and the importance of early diagnosis.
