Dear Tufts community members,
Tufts Public Safety is aware of reports of recent federal immigration enforcement activity in areas near our Medford/Somerville campus. We are actively monitoring the situation in coordination with our municipal partners in Medford and Somerville.
Tufts has a well‑defined process for responding to government officials who arrive on campus without prior notice. If you encounter DHS, ICE, or other immigration officials on or near campus, please call TUPD dispatch immediately at 617‑627‑3030. Our team will initiate the appropriate protocol and support you through the process. More information about our protocols and procedures regarding government inquiries can be found on the Office of University Counsel website:

If you are an international student, scholar, or employee on a Tufts-sponsored visa, contact the International Center by email or by calling 617-627-3458 (M–F, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.) with questions regarding maintaining your status and what documentation you should carry. As a reminder, the government will generally not call or email you regarding your immigration status or unpaid fees. Contact TUPD at 617-627-3030 or the International Center at 617-627-3458 to report interactions via telephone, email, or in-person with individuals claiming to be DHS (USCIS, ICE, CBP, HSI).
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with your questions or concerns. We are here to support you.
Sincerely,
Yolanda Smith
Associate Vice President of Public Safety and Chief of Police
