Duc Huynh, 2018 Biochemistry student, received an OBGE Professional Development Award. Read about his experience at the Marine Biological Laboratory this summer.

OBGE has been listening to student needs and has prepared a calendar of programs for the 2023-24 academic year intended to help create an inclusive, well-rounded, and fulfilling PhD experience for all our SOM PhD students.
One focus of this year’s OBGE programs is our Cohort Seminar Series. Students have continually asked OBGE for opportunities to interact with students outside their own programs, so we’ve created the Cohort Seminar Series to combine practical, year-specific academic and professional development content along with an opportunity to mingle with students from across SoM programs. Reunite with classmates you met in BIOTRAIN and Gateway Groups, and join us for your Cohort Seminar this year!
Details of specific events will be sent in emails and future newsletters. Mark your calendars for the events listed below.

CAGT Travel Award
We are excited to announce the brand new CAGT Travel Award. This funding award is offered by Duke University’s Center for Advanced Genomic Technologies (CAGT), and is for current trainees, including graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, who seek an opportunity to extend the scope and impact of their research by learning new methods or technologies and bringing that expertise back to Duke. Successful candidates will identify a collaborator at another research institution that is committed to hosting and training the visitor. Following this experience, candidates should be able to continue their research with ongoing collaboration. Through this funding award, the CAGT aims to establish a strong global network of collaborators and increase the speed and flexibility with which new methods and technologies can be established by Duke research labs. Awardees will receive financial support to visit the proposed collaborator for a brief period (e.g. 1 week) to initiate the collaboration. The proposed research training may be new to the applicant or an extension of the applicant’s prior research.
Please refer to our website: https://cagt.pratt.duke.edu/cagt-travel-award
Deadline to Apply: September 29, 2023
Notice of Award: November 1, 2023

Postdoc Recruitment
The Postdoc Affairs Offices at Northwestern University, The University of Chicago, and University of Illinois Chicago invite you to attend the Chicagoland Postdoc Recruitment Initiative, taking place virtually October 19-20, 2023!
Applications will be accepted through Monday, September 11th. APPLY HERE!
Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to learn about THREE postdoctoral programs in the Chicagoland area and the cutting-edge research happening at each institution. More than 150 faculty members from the three institutions have signed-up to participate in the Initiative!
This is a collaborative initiative to improve diversity and inclusion at the three largest research universities in the Chicago area, with the goal of addressing the "pipeline" challenge in academia for historically marginalized graduate students and postdocs, including individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds, who have disabilities, who identify as LGBTQIA+, who are veterans, or who were first-generation college students or Pell-eligible. Selected participants will learn about postdoctoral programs in the Chicagoland area, how to find postdoctoral opportunities, how to apply for postdoctoral positions, and how to maximize your postdoctoral experiences. Following these two days of programming, participants will conduct informational interviews with matched faculty members through November 3rd. Questions? Please visit our website or email us at: chicago.postdoc.recruit@gmail.com
