This morning, Parking & Transportation Services sent an email to faculty, students, and staff — including postdocs and other research staff — to let them know that on June 19, parking on campus will again require an active permit. The email provides directions for purchasing a new permit or reactivating an existing one.
I have a bit of good news for our graduate students, however. One thing not mentioned in this campus-wide email is that, for the summer session, graduate students may use their surface lot ‘A’ permits to park in any of the UT campus parking garages at no extra charge. Even better, this is not restricted to current pass holders. Students who don’t currently have an ‘A’ permit may purchase one for $15/month, and it, too, will access all garages.
I don’t yet know if this lower-fare parking will be extended into fall semester or if we’ll be able to arrange any other parking rate reductions for staff, but I realize this is an important issue for many. In the meantime, I hope this helps our returning graduate researchers feel better about commuting to campus and having a safe place to park near their buildings.
I’m sending a separate message to graduate students this morning, but please feel free to forward this to your teams as well.
Sincerely,
Alison Preston, Ph.D.
Interim Vice President for Research
