Hebrew College’s Jewish Teen Foundation of Greater Boston (JTFGB)
JTFGB is an innovative teen leadership initiative for Jewish high school students throughout the Greater Boston area. Integrating Jewish values, social justice work, and leadership training, this program offers teens the opportunity to learn the skills necessary for the grant-making process. Moreover, they determine the focal issues for their support, they raise money, and, applying their Jewish values, allocate grants to specific organizations working in their chosen areas. JTFGB held its kick-off event recently and the teens are ramping up to start selecting their focus areas for the year.

Teen Beit Midrash of Hebrew College
Teens who love to learn come together to explore the big questions of today through Talmud in our Teen Beit Midrash. TBM launched two cohorts this year: one in-person in our campus beit midrash and the other online. We are delighted that this program continues to grow, as students in Boston and from around North America enthusiastically dive deeply into the study of traditional Jewish texts. Our semester has begun with our students focusing on the themes of justice and judging, and how being created in the image of God informs that conversation. Students are continuing to build their skills in reading texts closely and are further strengthening their close-knit and strong community.

Dignity Project “Open Mic Night”: Sikh Sacred Worship Offering
By Shelton Oakley Hersey, Dignity Project Program Director
During our opening retreat in late August, the new Dignity Project fellows stepped out of their “comfort zones” at the annual “Open Mic Night” to share their talents and passions with the burgeoning community. Through their offerings of music, storytelling, poetry, dance, etc., the youth witnessed different facets of one another while experiencing firsthand the layers of diversity each person carries within themselves and across the group.
Attached is a brief video of two Sikh youth—Riya Patel and Danveer Nijjar—playing (the dilruba and the tabla) and singing (in Urdu) Sikh worship music at our annual “Open Mic” event. Due to the sacred nature of their worship music, they requested no applause or cheering at the end of their musical offering; the appreciation the group held quietly for this soulful sharing was palpable.
