Parkway Hills Leadership Board resumes tonight after taking a break for the months of June and July. April 16, 2023, Parkway Hills voted to move to a simplified governance structure rolling administrative functions into one Leadership Board. "In other words, the Leadership Board is the Finance Committee, and is the Staff Parish Relations Committee, and is the Trustee Committee, and is the Administrative Council. Nothing in the Book of Discipline is ignored or removed. Instead, the functions, roles, and responsibilities of each of the constituent committees are all placed upon the Leadership Board."*
While we do assign individuals particular areas of responsibilities on the Board to aid with work between meetings, the Board functions as a whole-- not as mini-committees. Below are our 2024 Leadership Board members.
Chair: Darlene Roberts
Vice-Chair: Matthew Kirk
Lay Leader: Alan Branson
Lay Delegates to Annual Conference: Bobby Stephenson and Florence Cooper
Other Members: Chris Gibbs, Edye Hambleton, Drew Pruett, Christine Morrison, Jody Nichols, Bob Chunn, Kitty Johnson

Beds for Kids!Latest bed deliveries mean that four kids can be allowed to return home, thanks to you, PHUMC!. Child protective services specify that there must be a bed for each child. PHUMC cares about children having their own beds to sleep in and be able to stay in their home. If you would like to be a part of our Beds for Kids Ministry, contact Ken Allen or Bill Flynn. Beds are built, delivered, set up, and completed with mattresses, pillows, and linen sets, thanks to PHUMC and partner volunteers and your gifts.

The Choctaw Mission, on the Reservation in Philadelphia, has existed since the 1800s as a ministry of the United Methodist Conference in Mississippi. The Mission cares and works with the Choctaw people to enrich the lives of children, young people, and families through community outreach, spriritual enrichment, and leadership development. Because children make up the majority of the 11,000 Tribal Members' population, the Mission's purpose for the young people is to provide spiritual and emotional wellbeing to build self-esteem, develop leadership skills, and nurture life skills for a brighter future.
According to Patricia Battle, the Global Ministries Choctaw Mission contact for the United Methodist Church, "The current urgent need is raising funds for Operation Christmas Gifts for children in Tribal Children and Family Services. These children are not full members of the Tribe, come from low-income families and what we give them is probably the only gifts and toys they would get for Christmas. Because of budget cuts and losing some large donors, we are praying we will be able to give the children what is on their Christmas wish list and children in the three Choctaw United Methodist churches a Christmas Celebration and a gift. We greatly appreciate the church designating the Communion offering for the Choctaw Mission."
PHUMC's August Communion Offering, $783 to date, supports the Mississippi UMC Choctaw Mission.
