After more than a year of remote instruction, we asked students what it feels like to finally be on the UC Santa Barbara campus for the fall quarter. Here's what they shared about the experience during their first full month at UCSB.

- Campus Protocols
In an email sent to students by university leadership, students were reminded of the proper steps needed before getting to campus. Students are expected to complete the UCSB Daily COVID-19 Screening Survey and need to receive a green clearance badge to enter university facilities. In addition, students need to wear masks in all indoor campus spaces. The Division of Student Affairs created a helpful checklist for students to know what they need to do before attending classes or campus events.
- Flu Vaccination Mandate
Beginning Nov. 19, 2021, the UC Office of the President is making influenza vaccinations mandatory for all faculty and other academic appointees, staff and students who will be working, living or learning on a UC campus anytime during the 2021-22 flu season. Vaccination appointments for students can be made online through the Student Health Gateway patient portal. More information is about the vaccine and scheduling an appointment is available at Student Health.
- Alisal Fire Nears Full Containment
Santa Barbara has been experiencing a fire recently, which poses no threat to UC Santa Barbara’s physical campus. UCSB officials are continuing to carefully monitor developments and work with local emergency management and fire officials to stay informed of the latest updates. To stay continue tracking the status of this, check out The Current.
- Halloween 2021- Keep it Local, Keep it Safe!
Students will be receiving communication from the Division of Student Affairs regarding safety, parking restrictions, and events being held during the Halloween weekend. The University, along with our student government and various student organizations, will host UCSB-student-only events over the weekend. To decrease the risks of out-of-town visitors, no overnight guests will be allowed in UCSB residence halls, campus and local area parking restrictions will be in effect, and the festival ordinance will be enforced in Isla Vista between October 26 and November 4. Please encourage your student to celebrate Halloween safely and responsibly by supporting the local community in keeping it safe and local.

Student Health Service is an on-campus resource to which all UCSB registered students have access. They are staffed by doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, dietitians, dentists, physical therapists, pharmacists, lab, and x-ray technicians, psychiatrists, social workers and alcohol and drug counselors. Services that are of no-cost to all students include consultations with an advice nurse, social workers, and alcohol and drug counselors.
To use Student Health Service, students must schedule an appointment. If a student is sick and needs an appointment, they are triaged by the nursing team to determine their need and/or urgency. They will be scheduled into a same-day appointment or for the following day or referred off-campus if necessary. Accidents or injuries are also triaged, evaluated and will be seen the same day as necessary. If students are unsure whether they need an appointment or need self-care advice, they can contact a clinical nurse through the Patient Portal Gateway or join a Qless (Virtual) phone line.
Student Health Service is open:
- Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri: 8:00-4:30pm
- Wednesdays: 9:00-4:30pm
