NASA Taps APL to Lead Lunar Exploration Research Team
APL leads one of five teams that NASA recently selected to collaborate on lunar science and lunar sample analysis research. The effort will support the exploration of the Moon as part of the agency’s Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute (SSERVI).

APL Designs Framework for a Digital Red Cross
In times of armed conflict, the Red Cross emblem protects the people who wear it and the buildings or vehicles that display it — but not their assets in cyberspace. APL is working with the International Committee of the Red Cross to create an equivalent of the emblem in cyberspace that would provide humanitarian and medical operations with legal protection from cyberattacks.

| A Stimulating Option for Spinal Cord Injury Relief
Spinal cord injuries are among the most devastating that a person can live with — as well as the most difficult to effectively treat. APL researchers are applying machine-learning techniques to enable existing technology to help restore autonomy and dignity to people who live with spinal cord injuries.

APL’s 2022 Annual Report Now Available
The Lab’s 2022 Annual Report, highlighting the top news, people and accomplishments from last year, is now available. Highlights from the Lab’s 80th anniversary year include the historic Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission, technologies for ballistic missile defense and strategic system tests, genomic sequencing of environmental DNA, and capabilities for cislunar security. Also featured are technologies for autonomous vessels in crowded seas, artificial intelligence systems to accelerate materials development and more.
