| Dear Partner in Ministry,
Living Water, Parting Waters, Baptismal Water, Stormy Waters, Cool Waters….
There are so many references in the Bible to water, and each resonates with a part of our soul.
Our family did a weeklong canoe trip in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota in 2021. It was profound to be out on the water for seven days with no cell phones, no car noise, just dipping paddles. Sky blue flowing into lake blue with sunshine shot through it all. The only worry was trying to figure out which crooked tree on the shoreline was our designated campsite for the night.
There is something calming about being out on the water, slicing through the waves, watching for sunning turtles, jumping fish and soaring birds. I can slow down, breathe a bit deeper and let God’s amazing creation seep into every part of my mind and body. We can’t slip off to Minnesota together, but we can get a piece of that vibe here in Washington DC. Starting at the Bladensburg Waterfront Park and kayaking down the Anacostia, you can forget for a while that there is a big city surrounding you. It is amazing!
The Anacostia River was badly polluted by humans, but a concentrated effort to clean it up has resulted in a reborn river with vibrant life in and around it. There is still work to do, so bring a trash bag, sunscreen, a hat and your lunch. Let’s gather down by the river….

1. Join Us for Worship, this Sunday, August 16th, at 10:00am in person or on YouTube. John Franke will be preaching.
2. GPC Kick Off Sunday, September 13th: Join us in the Georgetown Room at 9:45am for our Annual Town Hall to hear about the "State of the Church." Together, we will celebrate our ministry and look ahead to a new program year. Continental Breakfast will be served and worship returns to 11:00am with the full choir.
3. GPC250 - The Four Pillars: GPC250 is built on four pillars: a new pipe organ to lift our voices in worship for generations to come, mission to extend love and grace beyond these walls, a preservation fund to care for our aging building, and a renovation that creates space for our church family to gather and addresses deferred maintenance. 4. Join GPC’s Back to School efforts next week: We'll welcome teachers, students and families to a new school year. Volunteers are needed on Thursday morning, August 20th at 9am at the Pentagon Costco to help stock the Excel food pantry and buy supplies for the “Excel-e-bration” the next day.
