This week's featured photo comes to us from RVR residents, Bruce and Jane Warren. The image shows a fawn hiding in the Warren's garden.
According to the National Deer Association, "the mother will leave the fawn so as to not attract predators while she feeds so that she can receive the nutrition necessary for optimal milk production and she will then return multiple times a day to feed her newborn."
Bruce and Jane gave the fawn plenty of distance and observed and waited for the mother to return. Hours later the mother returned during a rain storm and collected her fawn.
Thank you to Bruce and Jane for sharing this special moment with us!
You can read more about this deer behavior here.
If you're interested in having your photo highlighted in the weekly news, please submit images to: jessica.hennessy@rvrma.org.

Red Foxes are not Always Red |
-
Fox fur can be red, black with silver tips, grey or mottled. A white tipped tail is key to identify. (Coyotes have a black tipped tail.)
- Fox prefer open woodlands and pastures near water.
- Their diet consists of small mammals (mice, voles), birds, reptiles, eggs, berries and nuts.
- Fox have very acute hearing to detect prey (useful especially in winter to locate prey in subnivean zone)
-
They breed in January/February; give birth in March/April; litter of 4 to 5 pups.
- Fox have been known to abscond with golf balls.
- Once classified with felines due to elliptical dilation of pupils (like a cat)

Thank you to RVR homeowners, Tricia Pionzio & Donna Chase for collaborating on this feature!

We love watching the hummingbirds that flock to our feeders. But have you seen that wasps are also attracted to these sweet treats? Wasps can be beneficial by eating other bugs in our gardens, but they can be a nuisance to the hummingbirds and to us. Wasps are thought to be most attracted to the colors yellow and white, which are the colors of most of the flowers where they find their prey, host insect, or sweet nectar to eat. On the other hand, they have a hard time seeing the color red. Luckily, hummingbird feeders are usually red because these petite flyers are attracted to the color. But some feeders have yellow or white nectar guards around the feeding ports, which can attract wasps. So, try to minimize the yellow or white markings on your hummingbird feeders, and choose nectar guards that are red or clear to keeps wasps at bay. The hummers will thank you!

Last week, we ran a piece about paddle boarding. It’s important to remember that there have been numerous accidents and even fatalities this season on the water that could have been prevented had the paddlers been wearing proper safety gear. So if you are heading out on the water, be sure to bring a PFD!

Long Range Planning
Vote Passes
|
The vote on the proposed special assessment has concluded and the majority of the community has voted in favor of the initiative.
The vote results are as follows:
|
- Total number of lots/units who cast a vote: 383 (69% of all voters)
- Number of "Yes" votes: 251 (66% of those who cast a vote)
- Number of "No" votes: 132 (34% of those who cast a vote)
- Number of lots/units who did not cast a vote: 169
|
| |
|
In order to pass, we needed a simple majority of “Yes” votes, with at least 60% of all properties participating (to meet a quorum). We have exceeded the quorum threshold with 69% of all properties participating in the vote. 66% of voters authorized the special assessment, representing a majority. As a result, the special assessment is hereby authorized.
The approved special assessment amount is $5,500 per lot or unit. Please note that the collection of this assessment is being carried out through a separate invoice, which has been sent to your email on record with the HOA. The invoice will come to you directly from RVR's QuickBooks account. The invoice has information regarding payment details inclusive of auto-pay options. You have the option to make either a partial payment (1/2 of the assessment) or a full payment on or before October 1, 2024. If you are splitting up the payment, the second half of the amount owed is due on or before August 1, 2025. However, we want to emphasize that you are free to make the payment at any time that is convenient for you before the due date.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the special assessment or the payment process, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to assist you and provide any necessary clarifications.
