| Homecoming Sunday: All are cordially invited to join us on Sunday, September 13 for the official start of the 2026–2027 program year. As is our custom, a combined celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 10:00 a.m. will be followed by a barbeque feast, as well as activities for parishioners of all ages. We look forward to marking the start of a new program year with you and yours! NOTE: The combined celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 10:00 a.m. will be the only service on Homecoming Sunday. Feeding Ministry: Christ Church’s Feeding Ministry will next provide a meal to those in need on Sunday, September 13. Parishioners of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate. Volunteers prepare food in the Keith Hall kitchen from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. Grate Patrol volunteers then partner with the Salvation Army to deliver and serve the food from 6:15 to 8:00 p.m. To volunteer, click here.
Weekday Services: Weekday services will resume on Monday, September 14. Public recitation of Morning Prayer (8:00 a.m.) and Evening Prayer (5:00 p.m.) will take place Monday through Saturday. On Wednesdays, Morning Prayer will be followed by a simple celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Additional volunteers are needed to share in the leadership of these brief, beautiful services. Upcoming Funeral Liturgy: A funeral liturgy for the late Peter Anders Dohlman will take place on Thursday September 17, at 11:00 a.m., in the Church. Your prayers and presence are requested.
Sunday School Open House: Interested in Sunday School this year? All children ages 3 through 11 and their parents are invited to gather in Keith Hall at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, September 20, to meet teachers, learn about the Sunday School curricula, and see the classrooms. Bite-sized Bible Study: Join fellow parents of nursery and Sunday School-aged children for a team-led, 30-minute exploration of the books of Kings. Beginning September 20, the group will gather on Sundays, at 10:15 a.m., in Room 201 on the second floor of Linthicum Hall. Nursery care for infants and toddlers, as well as music formation classes for children ages 3 through 11, will be available. Kenya Mission Trip Presentation: Come hear what the Lord is doing through his people in the heart of Kibera Slum. On Sunday, September 20, at 10:00 a.m., in the C. Boyden Gray Auditorium, participants in this past summer’s mission trip to Kenya will share stories about and pictures of the communities and people they visited. They will speak about the ways in which the trip changed them. The presentation will serve a foretaste for those who may want to participate in future mission trips. All are welcome.
Fall 2026 New Members Class: Would you like to learn more about the Episcopal/Anglican tradition – its history, theology, and practices? Would you like to become more involved in the life of the parish community or become a registered member of Christ Church, Georgetown? | Women’s Bible Study: Join Mother Tiffany Clark and a dynamic group of women as they tackle the Epistle to the Hebrews, a book which reflects back on the development of the pilgrim people of God in the Old Testament, offering a parallel interpretive commentary on what God was doing for them and, through Christ, what he is doing for us. GriefShare: Are you mourning the loss of someone or something you love? Then join fellow parishioners of all ages and stages of life as they walk together through the process of navigating grief and move towards hope. Led by Father Andrew Stump, the GriefShare group will meet every other Tuesday, beginning September 15, at 6:30 p.m., in the Memorial Room. For more information or to register, click here.
Going Deeper: Does your soul hunger for something more: A deeper life with God or a quieter trust? Going Deeper is an invitation to walk with others who are listening for that call. Meeting on alternating Tuesday evenings, participants in this parish group seek to expand their vision for the Christian life, engage in spiritual practices, and open themselves to the loving accountability of a committed band of fellow disciples. Not for the faint of heart, membership in the group requires a commitment to routine attendance, to transparent self-honesty, and to the hard work of following Christ in everyday life. Thursday Morning Bible Study: This fall, parishioners of all ages are invited to participate in an exploration of Genesis, a book which lays the foundation for the biblical narrative of God and his people. Diligent students and curious walk-ins are welcome. Gatherings will take place every two weeks, at 8:00 a.m., in Keith Hall, beginning September 17. Men’s Ministry Happy Hour: The first Men's Happy Hour of the program year will take place on Thursday, September 17, 6:00 p.m., at 1310 Kitchen and Bar: 1310 Wisconsin NW. All men of the parish are welcome – as are their guests. For more information, contact parishioners Al Troup or Chad Thorley.
New Parents Group: Intended for those who are new to parenting or who are just looking for fellow parents with whom to navigate life, this parish group meets monthly for a low-key Saturday morning hang-out… infants and toddlers in tow! Come, refresh your vision for why you do what you do in a community that offers encouragement, spiritual support, and a ton of laughter. Light on the Hill: Participants in this parish group, intended for those who currently work on Capitol Hill, at the White House, or in the various agencies of the federal government, seek to be the light of Christ to one another and to those with whom they work. Centering Prayer: All are invited to participate in a weekly, community-led time of centering prayer and Lectio Divina on Tuesdays, from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m., via Zoom, beginning September 22. Drawn from the monastic tradition, these practices offer an intentional way for individuals to make themselves available to God, acknowledging that “we do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us.” For more information, contact parishioners Lesley Lilly (713-805-5889) or Molly Peacock. Next Chapter Parish Group: Intended for those who are turning the page from the scramble of career building and parenting, this parish group serves as a reorienting compass. It provides space in which to think deeply, to ask important questions, and to chart a course for the next season of life with God. Open to single people, couples, and empty-nesters, participants convene monthly for a potluck dinner. Women’s Ministry Social Hour: Join the women of Christ Church for a monthly social gathering – the perfect way to reconnect with old friends and to make new ones. Agape Suppers: Formerly known as the Prime Timers, this parish group, which convenes monthly for dinner at Christ Church, is grounded in Christian fellowship, Georgetown hospitality, mutual learning, and the self-giving love of God. This season, each gathering will include a “behind the scenes” presentation by a representative of one of the parish’s guilds, ministries, or other leadership bodies intended to deepen participants’ understanding of both the mundane and spiritual practices that sustain the common life, and in particular, the liturgical life of the parish. The first gathering of the program year will take place on Wednesday, September 30. It will feature a presentation by members of the Vestry. Scripture Seminar: Despite a theological commitment to the Bible as the central document of our living faith and the primary source of God’s revelation, many find it difficult to read and even harder to understand. To receive and apply Scripture’s message, we need an interpretive framework and a basic familiarity with how the parts work together to create a whole. The new Christ Church Scripture Seminar will facilitate robust discussion, critical thought, personal insight, and grounded knowledge of the text of Holy Scripture. Led by the clergy of Christ Church and a team of visiting Biblical scholars, this season’s Scripture Seminar will offer a book-by-book overview of the Bible, immersing participants in its history, literary structures, narrative arc, and theological themes. Optional readings and pre-set questions will allow participants to anticipate and participate in each week’s discussion. Whether dipping a tentative toe or diving fully in, participants in this weekly series will steadily build a framework in which they can make sense of the various Biblical texts encountered in the liturgy and meaningfully engage with the Bible on their own. Thrift Shop Update: The Christ Church Thrift Shop, located on the lower level of Linthicum Hall, has resumed operation. The Thrift Shop is open each Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and on the fourth Sunday of each month, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in conjunction with the Parish Feast. Donations of unused or unwanted treasures are needed at this time: clothing, jewelry, antiques, china, glassware, household items, etc. Contributions are being accepted during the Thrift Shop’s normal hours of operation and by appointment at the Parish Office.
Altar Flowers: If you would like to make a contribution to help offset the cost of the flowers that will adorn the altar on a particular Sunday or feast day, contact the Parish Office. The Flower Guild accepts contributions in memory of the departed, in celebration of births, and in thanksgiving for the reception of Christian sacraments. Contributions marking private secular celebrations are welcome, but they will not be acknowledged in service leaflets or the Prayers of the People. In such cases, donors are encouraged to let loved ones know of their contribution with a greeting card. The suggested donation is $150.
