SF.gov practice site went down
The SF.gov
practice site was accidentally deleted during a routine Pantheon cleanup last week. While the site was quickly restored, all content in the practice site was lost. If you had pages in progress, they are, unfortunately, gone and we can’t get them back.
It won’t happen again
We’ll be updating the code monthly from now on, and we’re also going to back up the practice site AND back up that backup, just to be safe. Again, we are very sorry to those of you who lost content.

Self-paced online SF.gov trainings
We now offer self-paced online trainings to work on SF.gov! Trainings are now available for you to take at any time, at your own pace.
You can take:
- SF.gov concepts and structure
- Writing for SF.gov
- Working in the SF.gov CMS
-
Meetings on SF.gov (optional)
You can get your SF.gov login after taking the 3 required trainings and submitting a sample SF.gov page. You don’t need to sign up for each training. However, you do need to fill out a form at the end of each training to verify you’ve taken it.
You can also still sign up for live training sessions through November.
Email us or ping us on Teams if you have any questions!

Callout box on Info pages
Similar to Transaction pages, you can now add a callout text box to your Info page. Use it when you need to add supporting information that will increase the user’s understanding of your content.
You can add a callout box above the main body of text or between custom sections. It should not be used for main text, but for additional context and information.
|
The box and icon give users a visual cue that the info is important. Just remember to keep it short. The less you write, the more people will read.

External links on SF.gov
When you link to an external website on SF.gov, it is an endorsement. The website you are linking to must be a safe, trustworthy place to send a user.
On SF.gov, you can put an external link:
You should only link to an external website when:
-
There isn’t an internal page on SF.gov with the same information
- The external website is a trustworthy source that can support users better than SF.gov
- A user can only complete a specific task using that website
- The external website provides a single source of truth
See our full SF.gov external linking guidance.
