Greetings from the Director

The campus is in full bloom and anticipation for the hallowed Yale traditions that – usually – take place each spring. For the first time in three years, we are preparing to welcome alumni to New Haven for their reunions, and we could not be more excited!

As this year’s reunion gift campaigns kick into high gear, many of you are speaking to classmates in person or over Zoom, closing gifts by letter, WhatsApp and everything in between. There have been some wonderful moments, including a Yale family that can claim three members currently serving as reunion gift co-chairs! Bob Morse ’77, his son Rob ’17 and daughter Maggie ’12 are all helping to lead their respective reunion gift efforts. We thank them and all of our volunteers in the 2s and 7s for their push to the finish these final weeks of the fundraising year!

You may recall that our last issue of the e-newsletter featured the launch of Yale’s comprehensive campaign, For Humanity. In this issue, we take a closer look at the campaign through one of its four main lenses: Arts & Humanities for Insight. Yale has a responsibility to society to nurture and protect what it means to be human. As Wesley LePatner ’03 attests below, we can achieve this by investing in the scholarship and creativity that lies at the heart of Yale.

REUNION GIVING SPEAKER SERIES

The Heart of Yale

On March 16, the Reunion Giving Speaker Series featured Barbara Rockenbach, the Stephen F. Gates ’68 University Librarian in Yale University Library: Innovation at the Heart of the University. Ms. Rockenbach shared her priorities for preserving the library of the last 300 years while preparing for the next 100 through activating collections, innovation, and maintaining the library as place.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Wesley M. LePatner ’03

Wesley has been a volunteer for Yale since her graduation. We asked her about her service to the university and how her passion for the Yale Library led to a special role in the For Humanity campaign.

You have been a member of the Class of 2003’s 5th, 10th, and 15th Reunion Gift Committees while your husband, Evan, served as co-chair. What keeps you returning each reunion?

Our friends! Evan and I always walk away from our reunions both humbled and immensely grateful for our time at Yale and the friendships made there. The talent and intellectual horsepower of the community is extraordinary.

This spring, Yale will be celebrating reunions on campus over three weekends. Please visit alumni.yale.edu/reunions to register and for the latest updates on COVID requirements.

1st Weekend: May 27-28 (Classes: 1952, 1957, 1967, 1970, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2007)
2nd Weekend: June 3-4 (Classes: 1960, 1972, 1977, 1987, 1995, 2012, 2017)
3rd Weekend: June 10-11 (Classes: 1956, 1962, 1971, 1982, 1996, 2015, 2016)

This will be a Yale reunion unlike any other. We can’t wait to welcome you back!
