Scholarship Spotlight
Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program
Campus Deadline Extended: January 7
The Barry Goldwater Scholarship Program was created to encourage outstanding sophomores and juniors to pursue research careers in mathematics, the natural sciences (and psychology), or engineering and to foster excellence in those fields. Scholarships of up to $7,500 are provided to help cover costs associated with tuition, fees, books, room and board. Students can accept the title of Goldwater Scholar, but decline the financial compensation, if applicable.
Eligibility:
  • Sophomore or junior-level standing
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
  • Previous research experience, on or off-campus
  • Intentions of pursuing a PhD (or MD/PhD) in a STEM field
  • Demonstrated academic excellence, with a minimum 3.75 GPA

All or Multiple Disciplines
The MTO Fellows Program- Deadline: January 7. An initiative aimed at preparing 20-30 aspiring diverse students for admission to and success in law school. This program seeks applicants from all backgrounds and strives to increase the diversity of the legal profession. All MTO Fellows will participate in LSAT Preparation Course: an intensive, customized course paid for by Munger, Tolles & Olson, taught by TestMasters, and hosted at Loyola Law School in downtown Los Angeles, exclusively for MTO Fellows. The course will run during the summer months leading up to the October LSAT exam; monthly Saturday Workshops: programming workshops hosted one weekend day per month at Munger, Tolles & Olson’s downtown Los Angeles offices that are designed to address and prepare Fellows for the challenges of both the law school application process and law school itself, the Fellows Network: the program will connect Fellows to a strong network of law students and practicing attorneys, including Fellows alumni, supporters of the program, and partner organizations, through direct introductions during workshops, receptions, and community events

Ertegun Graduate Scholarship Programme in the Humanities at Oxford University- Deadline: January 11. Oxford is at the forefront of humanities research internationally, and attracts outstanding academics, researchers and students from across the globe. The Humanities Division offers taught graduate and research degrees in a wide range of subjects. Some of these subjects are relatively new and many cross the boundaries of traditional disciplines. Others are areas of academic research that have long been recognised as of central importance, and they include some that few other universities are still able to support. In every case our objective is to sustain and to teach the highest standards of scholarship.The University has one goal in mind when selecting Ertegun Scholars: to choose the very best students who will realise Mica Ertegun’s Mission and one day become leaders in their chosen fields. All Ertegun Scholarships cover tuition and college fees in full. Scholars also receive a generous annual grant for living costs.


STAGE Fellowship (Scientists, Technologists and Artists Generating Exploration)- Deadline: January 21. STAGE is offering fellowships at the University of Chicago to work collaboratively on the creation and development of its original theatrical works inspired by science and technology. This opportunity is open to those who have completed undergraduate or graduate degrees, preferably within the last two years. Fellowships include a stipend, and while there is no guarantee, are typically for one-to-two years, subject to satisfactory performance and in compliance with University policies. Ideally, we are looking for people with hybrid interests and skills, i.e., scientists who have had some theatre experience and/or theatre people with experience/a strong interest in science and/or technology.

Made in NY Writers Room Fellowship- Deadline: Decemebr 9! The Made in NY Writers Room (the “Fellowship”) identifies emerging local writers with diverse backgrounds and viewpoints to receive early-career development training from seasoned writer-producers and provide access that they would not otherwise receive from hiring professionals in the television industry.

CAPE (Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment) New Writers Fellowship- Deadline: January 7. The CAPE New Writers Fellowship discovers and nurtures emerging writers launching their careers in television and film. This unique, immersive Fellowship arms each participant with the practical and business knowledge they need to succeed as a professional writer in the entertainment industry. Each session is taught by top television and film writers, producers, agents, managers, and executives through a series of intimate panels and discussions. The Fellowship also offers a Writing Lab, which matches each Fellow with a high-level industry mentor to help them revise their scripts into professional-level writing samples to get them noticed and land that all-important first job.The Fellowship runs from early March to mid-April with each Session and Writing Lab meeting weekday evenings for approximately 2 hours in the Los Angeles, CA area. Fellows must provide their own housing and transportation throughout the duration of the Fellowship. NOTE: THIS APPLICATION HAS A $65 FEE.

Frank R. Seaver College of Science & Engineering
University of Michigan - CERN Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates Program (UM-CERN REU)- Deadline: January 4. Undergraduate students from around the United States have an opportunity to conduct nine weeks of summer research with some of the world's leading physicists at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. Selected students receive a stipend (about $2500), a per diem (about 90 CHF per day), travel reimbursement (one round-trip ticket from US to Geneva) and health insurance during their stay.
