How to get content out of Sakai & upcoming workshops
Fall 2024 marks the first term in which all Duke courses using a learning management system are on Canvas – approximately 14,000 students are enrolled in over 2,400 courses using Canvas. We have some mid-semester updates to help you advance your Canvas knowledge and start preparing for Spring 2025.

GETTING CONTENT OUT OF SAKAI
|
Sakai is now in "reference-only" mode, meaning users may access and download content from old Sakai sites but no new Sakai sites may be created. User access to Sakai will be disabled on June 1, 2025.
If you have content in Sakai that you would like to save, you have two options:
|
-
Request to have it migrated into Canvas. This option is ideal for courses you plan to re-teach using Canvas. We encourage you to submit requests sooner than later.
- Download and save it yourself.

All workshops are virtual and times listed are Eastern.

GET INSPIRED: STUDENT-APPROVED SITES |
Canvas Site Spotlights feature course sites that were nominated by students for their excellence in organization and supportive features. Each post includes a short demo video of their Canvas site by the instructors:
|
-
Bridgette Hard & Emma Grisham’s Psychology 101 course site provides a homepage that makes it easy for students to keep track of what they should be doing, despite having many different course components.
-
Thomas Nechyba’s Econ 101 course site is a masterclass in using the Modules feature for consistency, which reduced student confusion (and the need to send constant reminders for Nechyba).
