Academic Job Application Bootcamp |
Are you planning to enter the (higher ed) academic job market within the next year? Join us to hear from search committee members about what they tend to look for from applicants, learn how to dissect a job ad, and receive instruction on how to compose effective cover letters and teaching philosophy statements. You will also have time to analyze your own materials.Â
Participants will be added to a Canvas course and asked to brainstorm and prepare (very) rough drafts or elements of their cover letter and teaching philosophies for a real job ad PRIOR to the workshop day. Mentoring From the Middle is a three-part workshop series designed for doctoral students and postdocs. The series provides practical strategies for building productive mentoring relationships, supporting learning, and addressing problems before they become unmanageable.Â
Part I. Setting the Stage For Success
We will explore factors to consider in advance of mentoring a student and discuss how to engage with interns through the onboarding and orientation process. Communication related to research projects, boundaries, and expectation setting will be discussed within the context of psychological safety and belonging in the mentoring relationship and group.Â

In this session, we’ll hear from Mary Herridge (Associate Vice President, Enrollment Management) and Dr. Marcie Moehnke (Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies, College of Arts & Sciences; Teaching Professor, Biology), Baylor professionals involved in recruitment and enrollment, as they describe Baylor students and discuss implications for your teaching. 🧑‍💻Baylor Libraries Author Series: Black at Baylor: Vital Voices of the First Generation |
Black at Baylor: Vital Voices of the First Generation explores the stories of thirteen of the first Black students to enroll at Baylor University in the 1960s and early 1970s. Each chapter chronicles an individual student’s account of their lived experience of integration within spaces segregated for over a century at the oldest university in Texas. The thirteen students varied in upbringing, hometown, major, and extracurricular activities and included Waco resident Choice Richardson and Sandra Minor. The Baylor Learning Design Team in partnership with the Academy for Teaching and Learning has designed the DOTS (Designing for Online Teaching Success) program for doctoral students interested in learning the theory and practice of designing and teaching high quality online courses.

Every Moment Holy Worship Night and Bobo After Hours Event |
Baylor Spiritual Life is bringing Douglas Kaine McKelvey, author of the Every Moment Holy series, to campus on Tuesday, 9/29. This will be a time of worship and prayer, as various musical artists lead us in worship and Doug reads liturgies from his latest volume “Rites of Passage.” These liturgies are simple prayers for every day moments that students will be able to relate to (Ex: A liturgy for making a cup of coffee, for cramming for an exam, for starting a new job, for navigating loneliness or spiritual doubt, going on a first date, etc.)Â
Afterwards, Spiritual Life is inviting students to the Bobo Spiritual Life center for free food, giveaways, and fellowship. Cowboy coffee will be provided by the Baylor Graduate School. Attendance is Free but RSVPs are preferred. Link to do so here!
