Loves About Brebeuf
That I can walk down the hallway and recognize almost everyone I see. People from other schools always tell me they see a new person everyday in the hallway, and that doesn’t sound appealing to me. I like knowing the people that I’m sharing my high school experience with.
Class You Are Most Looking Forward to This Year
I’m most looking forward to Intro to Entrepreneurship. It sounds really fun and educational. Mr. VanSlam has several speakers come in that have made a successful career for themselves. It’s very inspiring because most of them started out just like us, some of them are even Brebeuf grads. It’ll be fun to learn about something that really interests me.
Future Plans
It changes everyday, but I’ve considered marketing and law school. I love to read, and marketing sounds exciting. I want to go to college somewhere new, or I could end up down the road at Butler. It all depends.

Random Facts
I love Captain America.
At the age of 4, I knew every word to the song “1985.
I danced for eight years.
Chicken fingers have been my favorite meal since I was 4 years old.
I used to wear turtlenecks to sleep because I thought a vampire would suck my blood.
How did you spend your summer?
I went to a lot of soccer practices. We took a huge family trip to the beach over the 4th of July, but I spent the majority of the time watching movies or messing with my siblings.
What are you most looking forward to during this school year?
Any sporting event and PRTs in the Information Commons with the librarians.
Where would you travel if time and money weren’t an issue?
I would really like to travel to Ethiopia and help at an orphanage and travel the country. As much as I’d love to travel the world, I think it’s important to see how others are living.
What are some small things that make your day better?
When someone smiles at me in the hallway or makes me laugh when I’m doing homework. You don’t realize how much you appreciate those things until you’re at your house all summer.
Upcoming College Counseling Events
Evening with Senior Parents
College Counseling's Evening with Senior Parents will take place on August 22, 2018 in the Efroymson Auditorium from 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Scholarship Announcements
The Wells Scholarship at Indiana University Bloomington is one of the most prestigious scholarships in higher education providing full tuition, mandatory and course-related fees, and a living stipend for four years of study. Academic and career mentoring, international experiences, summer enrichment, and membership in the Hutton Honors College are all part of the Wells Scholars experience, which combines the best features of a large research university and a small liberal arts college. Recent Wells Scholars had an average GPA of 3.9 or higher, SAT of 1400 or higher/ACT of 32 or higher, and rank in the top 5% of their high school classes, with significant contributions in extracurricular activities, leadership, and community service. You must be fully committed to attending IU Bloomington if offered the Wells Scholarship. If you apply binding Early Decision to any school, you are not eligible to be nominated.  Members of the Class of 2019 who are interested in consideration as one of Brebeuf’s two Wells Scholarship nominees should email Mrs. Jody Root (subject line: Wells Scholarship) by 3:15 p.m. on Monday, September 4. Ignatian Scholars Updates

Ignatian Scholars Retreat
On Tuesday, August 7, the Freshmen Ignatian Scholars went to Butler University for their annual retreat. Once there, the new Scholars began their jam-packed day with a welcome and introduction to the program and what they can expect from it by Winston Miller, the Ignatian Scholars Coordinator.
After learning the story of Saint Ignatius, the Scholars were led through an activity facilitated by Brebeuf Principal, Mr. VanSlambrook, who asked the scholars to walk around the room and read various quotes regarding leadership he had posted on the walls and to stand next to their favorite quote. Scholars were asked to volunteer their thoughts and articulate what they found meaningful about their leadership quote. Immediately afterwards, Scholars listened to a current Butler student who spoke about the importance of getting involved at a new school by joining clubs and organizations.
In an effort to become more familiar with each other, Scholars then broke out into small groups and played icebreaker games where they learned interesting facts about each other that they had to memorize. At that point, the rest of the college counseling team from Brebeuf, led by Director of College Counseling, Dr. Jim Fadely, arrived and introduced themselves and made it clear they were available to answer any college-related questions the scholars may have at any time throughout their time at Brebeuf. From there, the Ignatian Scholars received a tour of Butler’s campus by two current Butler tour guides and had lunch in Butler’s main dining hall.
The day concluded with another talk by Ignatian Scholars Coordinator, Winston Miller, who discussed the importance of stepping out of one’s comfort zone. It was a fun and productive day, and we want to thank Butler’s Admissions office for so graciously hosting the Ignatian Scholars for the day!
