A Word From Mr. Martin
Dear Parents,
Each week I read several articles on various topics related to education, parenting and social issues. I found this one last week and thought it was worth sharing. I watch my children obsess with their grades and my youngest will ask to check the PowerSchool app on my wife’s phone several times each evening, just in case a teacher has entered a grade.

LCA Showcase

FUEL Basketball League
The FUEL Basketball League for students in grades 3-6 is starting soon and we would love to have your help! We are currently looking for coaches for all of our boys and girls teams, as well as team parents to assist with communication, coordinating snacks, and cheering on our young athletes! If you are interested in helping with the FUEL Basketball League this year, please contact Coach Simmons.

If you have a child in grades K-2, please consider signing up for Youth Basketball through the City of Fircrest Parks and Recreation. Practices will begin in December followed by games on Saturdays in January. Registration is open through November 8. For more information please email the Fircrest Recreation Director, Chris Wells.

Fall Book Fair
November 4-8
LCA Library
The Fall Book Fair at LCA is coming up soon! Please join us in the library on November 4-8 to see our amazing selection of books and other fun items! The book fair will be open from 11:00am-5:00pm each day and you are welcome to stop by anytime. Our extended shopping hours will be on Wednesday, November 6, before and after the LCA Showcase, from 5:00-6:15pm and from 8:30-9:00pm.
Online shopping begins on October 27! Also, be sure to try our new ewallet option. Your child will be able to shop all week and you'll be billed at the close of the fair. You can find all of the information you need on the book fair website!
We are also looking for volunteers! If you are interested in lending a hand, please contact Mrs. Schambier or sign up here.

National Honor Society
Seventeen students from LCA were recently inducted as new members of the National Honor Society. Members were selected by the chapter’s faculty panel for meeting high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. The students inducted were Steiner Christensen, Ian Coates-White, Abby Gentile, Ellen Graupensperger, Treye Hall, Katherine Johnston, Holden Kelly, River Kovacs, Yimui ‘May’ Kwok, Novalee Lewis, Gabby Martin, Benjamin McCarthy, Olivia Roberts, Emily Sullivan, Avery Torgerson, Kehao ‘David’ Sun, and Jake Martin. We are proud to recognize these outstanding members of our student body.
The LCA High School chapter has been active since 2009. Each year the chapter sponsors several service projects for the school and community which in past few years have included a toy and snack drive for the students of Franklin Elementary, peer tutoring, and raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Costume Volunteers Needed!
Hey crafty people! We are looking for a team of people who can cut and glue to help us out with costumes for the Christmas program! If you have any special skills or creative ideas to share please come join us! There are opportunities to help out at home, as well as during the school day. This is a fun and easy way to get some PEP hours and meet other fun crafty parents! Please contact Mrs. Geesey if you are interested in joining the fun!

Interact Food Drive
Now through October 31, LCA's Interact Club is hosting a food drive for all high school students. Food collected will be sent to EFN, which distributes food to local food banks.
Please donate non-perishable, nutrient-rich foods. Points will be awarded accordingly for the class competition: 4 points per protein or dairy item, 3 points per fruit or vegetable item, 1 point per grain item. Seniors report their items to Mr. Madlena, juniors to Ms. Lohse, sophomores to Mrs. Rogers, and freshmen to Mr. DeMass. The grade level with the most points wins (prize announced soon)!

Middle School Art
On Monday, two of our middle school art classes began a new project. They are creating art that will be sent to students in Pakistan to help promote global friendship and peace. Once our students finish their art, we will pray over the pieces and get them ready for shipping. Our students will also receive a piece of art that has been sent to us from Pakistan. If you would like to donate to this project, it will cost about $12 per student to send the art to Pakistan. Also, all money raised in December at our Fine Arts Showcase will go to pay shipping charges as well. Prayer Events
Prayer at the Pole: Join us on November 1, 22, and December 6 from 7:45-8:00am at the LCA flag pole as we pray through the elements of our spiritual theme "Great is Your Faithfulness."
Prayer Walk: We invite you to join us in the KAC Foyer on Tuesday, November 5 from 7:15-7:45am us as we pray for our school, students, families, faculty, staff, leaders, boards, finances, and continued spiritual growth on our campus. We will walk the classrooms, offices, hallways, perimeter, and auditorium halls, praying God’s favor and His presence to be known to everyone at Life Christian Academy.
Mom's Prayer Project: On Wednesday, November 20 at 8:30am join us in the Gray Chapel as we gather to pray. Prayer is simply communication. Through prayer we will share what is on our heart with Jesus. During prayer time we will talk and listen. Transformation happens within ourselves and others as we move to develop a more intimate prayer relationship with Jesus.

Costa Rica Sun & Service
Join Ms. Jobe and Mrs. Rogers on a trip to experience the culture and natural splendor of Costa Rica from June 14-24, 2020. This immersive, service-learning trip includes sightseeing, exploring gorgeous natural settings, and helping others by serving in a community. Your service time can count towards your needed service hours for graduation. We will be holding an informational meeting on November 13 at 7:00pm in the art room (#351). The Costa Rica Sun & Service is open to all LCA 2019-20 high school students, parents, and alumni. Students are invited to sign up through this link. On Thursday, January 9 all juniors and their parents are invited to attend an important meeting from 7:00-8:30pm in the Gray Chapel.
