In this edition of Rooibos Innovation, we explore how Rooibos continues to show up in unexpected and exciting places — from digital culture to beauty, wellness and global retail. This naturally versatile ingredient is proving its relevance far beyond the teacup, finding new audiences through creativity, innovation and conscious design.
We spotlight Rooibos’ playful debut as a character in a strategy video game, its role in glow-boosting skincare formulations, and its warm, aromatic presence in artisanal kombucha brewed in rural France. Rooibos has made an unexpected appearance in Sovereign Tea, a turn-based tactics game built around an imaginative war between tea and coffee. In the game, Rooibos is one of twelve Tea Princesses, portrayed as honest and grounded alongside characters like Mint and Chamomile.
While the concept is playful, the gameplay is surprisingly strategic. Players “brew” more than 40 different Tea Minions by mixing ingredients, with each blend affecting abilities and combat outcomes — a clever nod to the art of tea blending.
Originally released as a paid game in 2021, Sovereign Tea is now permanently free to play.
Another small but delightful moment where Rooibos shows up in culture — this time, as a hero in a digital tea battle.

Among its five plant-based flavours, Rooibos-chai stands out as a warming, aromatic blend that brings depth and balance to the kombucha profile. Made with organic ingredients selected for flavour and quality, the Rooibos infusion adds gentle sweetness and spice without overpowering the natural fermentation.
