Godspeed, Ric Lippincott

We were deeply saddened to learn that Ric Lippincott, a friend to so many people in our industry, passed away yesterday morning after a superhuman eight-month battle with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. We had all been following Ric's ongoing health updates on MyLifeline.org, which chronicled his many triumphs and setbacks since he was originally diagnosed last July. Since that time, Ric's amazingly positive spirit has been an incredible inspiration to everyone who knows him... however, by yesterday morning it had become painfully clear that it was time for Ric to let go and fly...
Over the course of his lengthy music industry career, Ric shared his considerable talents with both sides of the business -- he served two tours of duty as OM/PD of WLS/Chicago with a stint as PD of KYUU/San Francisco sandwiched in between. He later transitioned to the label side, doing National Promotion for Zoo Records, served as VP of Promotion for Curb Records and SVP of Promotion at Maverick Records. In 2006 Lippincott returned to radio one more time to program Bonneville's WILV/Chicago; a year later, he returned home to Los Angeles where he joined Chicago Title and Trust. He also indulged his lifelong love of flying, accepting a position as a Captain with Chrysler Aviation.
Ric leaves behind a beautiful legacy in the form of his family -- daughters Paige and Aja, sons Brandon and Rudd and his loving girlfriend, Teri Hogan, who collectively posted this message yesterday, which read, "Dear Supporters and Loved Ones -- on February 22, 2016, our father laid down for his final rest. After a courageous battle of eight months, his spirit will forever carry on for eternity. Let each day be a celebration of his life, the lessons he taught us, and the loving impact he will leave with all of us. 'Fathers hold their children's hands for a short while, but hold their hearts forever.' On behalf of Paige, Brandon, Aja, Teri, Kyle, and the rest of the family, thank you for the overwhelming support throughout this journey. May our father rest in peace. Memorial services will be announced."
If you want to witness some small measure of how loved Ric Lippincott was, please spend some time reading the amazing messages of love on his Facebook page from all of the people whose lives he touched.

Cage Match Made In Philly

CBS Radio Top 40 WZMP (96.5 AMP Radio)/Philadelphia is about to double the firepower of its morning show with the announcement that company vet Jason Cage will partner with current morning star Bex to form... wait for it... Cage & Bex in the Morning, which debuts on Monday, March 7. Cage (left) earns the transfer from the night show at Top 40 sister WBBM-FM (B96)/Chicago. More on that in a moment. In making the announcement, AMP Radio PD Bobby Smith said, "I'm thrilled for Jason to host 'live-and-local' mornings on AMP Radio Philly. We will continue to be Philadelphia's hit music destination in the mornings while also complementing our music programming with Jason's humorous perspectives on lifestyle, pop-culture and entertainment news."
The talented Ms. Bex (left) has been flying solo in mornings since AMP Radio launched in April of 2015. Her star is certainly on the rise in the market -- she recently began doing entertainment reports on sister KYW Newsradio 1060 as well as a weekly midday feature on SportsRadio 94 WIP. David Yadgaroff, SVP/Market Manager for CBS Radio Philadelphia commented, "With the local star power that Bex has already built in the morning drive, I'm excited to hear Jason join her as we develop an even bigger live and local morning presence for our audience and advertisers."
The rest of the AMP Radio weekday line-up remains the same -- Jilly in middays, Mike Adam in afternoons and Bennett from 7-midnight. RAMP also reached out to Bobby Smith, who added, "I've been a fan of Jason Cage's for years. I feel like his personality and style will be a perfect fit for a successful live-and-local Philly morning show." A clearly excited Cage told RAMP, "Woah! Thrilled to have received the call from Bobby for wakeups on AMP! B96 has been an amazing radio family over the past five years and CBS is a fantastic company that I'm happy to continue a relationship with in Philly.  Thank you Bobby, Todd, Erik and everyone who set the wheels in motion. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get to bed."
Meanwhile, back at B96... PD Todd Cavanah and APD/MD Erik Bradley will utilize some part-time talent to cover nights in the interim as they begin to scour the earth for a permanent superstar replacement. The position will soon be posted on the CBS Radio Career Center, and candidates are instructed to apply online and also inform Todd and Erik of their interest in the gig via this secret email address -- B96Airchecks@cbsradio.com.

Jeff & Jenn Ride Again

Atlanta's worst kept radio secret was finally confirmed yesterday when Entercom formally announced the long awaited reunion of Jeff Dauler and Jenn Hobby in mornings -- along with Mike Marino -- to host The Jeff & Jenn Show on WSTR (Star 94.1)/Atlanta. The duo previously worked together for many years on The Bert Show across the street on Cumulus Top 40 WWWQ (Q100).
Dauler resigned from the show last fall and was hired by Star shortly thereafter. Hobby's other Atlanta stops include WBTS-FM, and most recently, middays at Cumulus Country WKHX (Kicks 101.5). "Jenn is uniquely talented and perfect for our audience," said Mike Fowler, VP/GM of Entercom Atlanta. "I'm thrilled to reunite Jenn Hobby and Jeff Dauler on Star 94.1." He then handed the mic to PD Tony Lorino, who said, "As we talked to people about what they wanted in a morning show, two names kept coming up again and again -- and those names were Jeff Dauler and Jenn Hobby. We cannot wait to begin building the next generation of this historic radio station with Jeff and Jenn anchoring our fantastic slate of personalities."
Hobby commented, "I'm honored to join Entercom and Star 94.1, an organization committed to making the best local radio in Atlanta. I'm beyond excited to have this opportunity with one of my best friends, Jeff Dauler, and I'm most thankful that I get to reconnect with the awesome listeners of Atlanta. I've missed our time together each morning." Dauler remarked, "I'm so excited to be reunited in a radio studio with Jenn. Some of my favorite memories -- personal and professional -- involve her, and I can't wait to add to that library. Being able to launch a show with her is literally a dream come true."

New Dawn After A Long Night

CBS Radio Alternative KXTE (X107.5)/Las Vegas debuted its new morning show yesterday -- Marco & Jeetz is now on the air. The newly constructed wake-up crew is comprised of (l-r): Marco Orem, Joe "Jeetz" Reeder and X107.5 personality Ransom, who will also serve as the show's producer. Marco spent the past four years doing afternoons at Cumulus Media's WRQX/Washington. Before that he programmed sister WRWM (i94)/Indianapolis. Jeetz spent the first nine years of his career at KISW/Seattle. He later accepted his first PD opportunity at Active Rock KZND/Anchorage, AK. After a year in that spot, Jeetz returned to Seattle, where he was the morning co-host/producer at Entercom Rhythmic KHTP (Hot 103.7) until last summer.
"We are very excited for the debut of Marco & Jeetz," said a very excited JB King, Operations Manager of CBS Radio Las Vegas. "After an exhaustive search all across the country to find the right personalities for our new morning show, we believe that Marco & Jeetz are exactly what the X107.5 listeners have been asking for." In a joint statement, Marco & Jeetz said, "Creating entertaining content for our listeners is what our brand represents. We are thrilled to team our passion with X107.5 in Las Vegas." Marco & Jeetz succeeds X107.5's long-running Dave, Mahoney & DK Morning Show, which last summer was awarded a transfer to mornings on CBS Radio Hot AC sister KHMX (Mix 96.5)/Houston.

Miles To Go To Boston

Major market pro Jeff Miles is leaving his morning post at Cox Media Country KCYY (Y100)/San Antonio and is headed for Boston, hired by Greater Media as the new morning show host at WKLB (Country 102.5), effective March 7. As we recently reported, WKLB parted ways with its longtime wake-up duo of John "JW" Willis and Lori Grande earlier this month, setting the stage for a new show. Miles is a Texas native who has been with Y100 since August of 2013. His previous stops include middays at WPLJ/New York, middays at iHeartMedia Top 40 KHKS (106.1 Kiss FM)/Dallas and two tours of duty at Cumulus Top 40 WWWQ (Q100)/Atlanta.
"Country 102.5 is excited to embark on a new phase of great morning radio in Boston," said WKLB PD Mike Brophey. "Jeff Miles brings some great experiences and successes with him. I know our listeners will be enthusiastic as we build a great morning show." Miles remarked, "I couldn't be more excited to be joining Country 102.5. This has been a dream of mine my entire career to wake up and create great moments in such an incredible city. I'm even more excited to join Mike Brophey and the incredible team at Greater Media. It feels like I'm joining a great family more than anything else!"

Remember To Mention The Alamo!

Morning team Brooke & Jubal continue their gradual outward expansion with the addition of their third affiliate -- their first outside the Pacific time zone -- Alpha Media's KTFM (Energy 94.1)/San Antonio, where they make their debut on March 1. Brooke & Jubal In The Morning originates from Hubbard Radio's KQMV (MOViN 92.5)/Seattle and is also carried on Alpha Media's KBFF (Live 95.5)/Portland, OR. The show is also featured on Fox TV's Dish Nation. Alpha Media VP of Programming Phil Becker commented, "Brooke & Jubal's success in Portland has been a game-changer for KBFF and I'm very confident that the same thing will happen as they join KTFM. I'm excited to watch the competitive landscape change in San Antonio as Brooke & Jubal continue their growth with Alpha Media."
Host Jubal Flagg (center, bookended by Brooke and co-host/sidekick Jose) remarked, "I'd like to think of Brooke & Jubal in the Morning as the hardest working morning show in radio and we can't wait to take on this next challenge. I'm thrilled to bring the success we’ve had in Seattle and Portland to San Antonio. I can't thank Alpha Media enough for another great opportunity." Energy 94.1 PD Pat "Grooves" Cerullo commented, "The fastest way to even the competitive landscape is to fight good content with even better content. Brooke & Jubal's stellar ratings record can be directly attributed to their ability to connect and make people laugh with top-notch content. It's a great addition to our recently revamped Energy 94.1 team and I can't wait to get them on the air." Brooke & Jubal succeed the team of Blondie & Nugget, who recently exited. Nugget is now doing mornings on Flinn Top 40 WHBQ (Q107.5)/Memphis.

Cox Media Group Moves

• Cox Media Group Orlando made news yesterday when it ventured into the burgeoning Spanish-language market, flipping Alternative translator X107.3 to Spanish Hot AC 107.3 Solo Éxitos, designed to appeal to 25-54 Hispanic adults. This entry into the Hispanic arena is the first for Cox Media Group and will be the 7th radio station in CMG's Orlando cluster, which also includes Country WWKA (K92.3), Rhythmic WPYO (Power 95.3), Urban AC WCFB (Star 94.5), Classic Hits WMMO, FM News/Talk WDBO and Sports WDBO-AM (ESPN 580).
The Cox Media Group Programming Strategic Team, lead by VP of Programming Steve Smith and CMG Orlando Operations Manager Stevie DeMann had been following local Hispanic listening habits and were the creative minds behind this new product. "It's time for CMG to enter the Hispanic arena!" said DeMann. "107.3 Solo Éxitos will be reaching an audience of Hispanic music fans that no Orlando radio station was serving until now. It will super-serve the Hispanic music fan by focusing on acts like Marc Anthony, Juan Luis Guerra, Romeo Santos, Enrique Iglesias and Prince Royce. 107.3 Solo Éxitos is ready to turn up the heat on Orlando radio and mobile devices with the new 107.3 Solo Éxitos App. CMG Regional VP Susan Larkin added, "The Orlando community is ready and it's the perfect time to hear 107.3 Solo Éxitos. We are thrilled be able to introduce a new format to the Orlando Hispanic community. It also opens the door for all of Cox Media Group to enter the Hispanic radio format."
• Cox Media Group Hot AC KRAV (Mix96)/Tulsa has found the missing piece of its morning show puzzle, hiring market vet K.C. Lupp to host the newly rebranded K.C. and Lindsey Morning Show, joining existing co-host Lindsey Bauer. For Lupp (left), the new job requires no moving expenses -- he crosses the street from iHeartMedia, where he spent the past 12 years as an afternoon talent and production manager.
CMG Tulsa Director of Operations Steve Hunter said, "I couldn't be happier to have someone like K.C. join our staff. He will be a great addition to Mix96 and our cluster of five great radio stations." Lupp succeeds former morning host Tad Lemire, who was recently awarded a transfer to mornings at CMG sister WSB-FM (B98.5)/Atlanta. The K.C. and Lindsey Morning Show will debut on March 7.

Nathan Is Certainly Syke'd

Global Entertainment recording artist Nathan Sykes recently travelled to an exotic and faraway land called Philadelphia, where he graciously performed at a Listener Lounge event for iHeartMedia WIOQ (Q102). Sykes (center) has every reason to smile this week as his new Global single, "Over And Over Again" just debuted at 38* on the Mediabase Top 40 chart.
Afterwards, Sykes joined an overly caffeinated excited Q102 PD/midday personality Jared Fallon (right) and night jock Raphael (left) as they were apparently instructed by the photographer to pretend they were auditioning to be in a new Mentos commercial.
