From the DeanAs I walk around campus and see the faces of our new and returning students, I see the excitement and energy of a new school year. Like them, I have the same sense of anticipation and excitement about what this year will bring. Welcome back to campus, students, faculty and staff.
In this month’s newsletter, we have exciting news to share about our college’s diversity, inclusion and innovation efforts. First, INSIGHT Into Diversity, the largest and oldest diversity and inclusion publication in higher education, has honored PEER & WISE with a 2021 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award, highlighting the success of our initiatives in this area. In addition, three stories in this month’s newsletter feature the innovation efforts of our college’s researchers. Various teams of our faculty and students unveiled the Deep Orange 12 autonomous race car at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, won the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 2021 Green Chemistry Challenge Award for making polyurethane foam without toxic chemicals and developed a simulator that helps bring ocean scenes to life on the screen. Also in this issue, we express our appreciation for the late James Edwin Clark, a civil engineering professor who is remembered fondly by his former students and colleagues.
As always, the success we enjoy is possible only because of you – our alumni and friends. If you would like to help as we begin a new academic year, you can make a donation by clicking the “Make a Gift” button below. Your contributions are very much appreciated, and I hope I have the opportunity to invite you to campus to thank you in person soon. Be safe, stay healthy, and go Tigers!
