University of Oregon
Dear Student Services and Enrollment Management Team,
Happy November to each of you. Below are a few division highlights from the last month.

Board Summit
Our University Board Summit was last month. With great enthusiasm I shared with the many groups our transformational housing plan, University Health Center renovation and expansion plan, as well as our enrollment growth plans. The transformational housing plan had the most questions, as many board members lived in Walton or Hamilton as students. But, with discussion, people were supportive of our efforts. In short, all plans were received very well by the groups.

Staff Recognition
SSEM has a new Champion Belt team recognition program for 2018-19. Congrats to our first three recipients Joelle Goodwin, Silvina Sousa-Ransford, and Keith Frazee for their outstanding efforts. If you wish to nominate a SSEM team member for consideration of the weekly distinction as an SSEM Champion, please forward the individual's name, position, department and what makes them a champion to ssemchampions@uoregon.edu.

Kudos
  • Last month we hosted Randy McDow, the executive director of the Stamps Foundation. As you likely know, our Stamps Scholars program has been in existence for six years and expanded this past year. Info about the students selected as Stamps Scholars can be found here. The visit was incredibly positive—a big thank you to everyone who hosted Randy.
  • Last week was Homecoming and Parent and Family Weekend and many visitors were on campus. Our division participated in the Homecoming parade with the Duck Truck and the Duck. SSEM team members participated as well as many creatively decorated floats from the residence halls. It was a fun event!
  • Many members of our team have been working to address one of the ASUO's primary focuses, food insecurity. In addition to the Carson unlimited dining program, we have been working on a texting program to inform students of leftover food from UO catered events. Outstanding job by all involved
  • As part of Homecoming weekend, our Counseling Center hosted the Collegiate Recovery Center Sober Tailgate. This annual event brings students from the Collegiate Recovery Center, community members, and others interested in a sober tailgate environment together before the game. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event successful and those who attended.
  • Last week Halloween was celebrated throughout SSEM with costumes, fun activities, candy, and food. It is always fun to see the various ways our departments celebrate Halloween. A few of my favorites this year were the "Harry Potter Crew" and 101 Dalmatians in the Health Center, the dominoes in Financial Aid, and the Track Town Pizza in the Registrar’s Office. I hope everyone enjoyed Halloween and great job on the costumes to those that dressed.
Save the Date
Please hold the date for our SSEM Winter Retreat December 10, 2019. More information to come soon.
Sincerely,
Roger J. Thompson
Vice President for Student Services and Enrollment Management
