Sixty-Eight Students Recognized at Annual Achievement Ceremony

We recognized the achievements of 68 students on November 2, during our annual Student Achievement Ceremony. We were overjoyed to have over 100 people in attendance! It was wonderful to see the outpouring of support for our students.Thank you to everyone who attended.
Special thanks to our speakers for the evening: tutor Dellinda Hueston and students Jose Martinez and Palwasha Mohammad Asif.
We're extremely grateful to Chip King for photographing the event! You can view and download his photos here: Ceremony Photos.

Save the Date for Giving Tuesday -  Tuesday, November 28

The holidays are swiftly approaching which also means that organizations are ramping up their end-of-year giving. To kick off the season, Literacy Volunteers will be participating in Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.
This year, consider an alternative gift-giving experience by making a charitable donation in honor of a friend or family member. If you make a donation in someone's honor on Giving Tuesday, we'll send them a personalized card just in time for the holidays!
According to the National Retail Federation, consumers will spend an average of $608 on gifts for family, friends, and coworkers this holiday season. At Literacy Volunteers, $608 would provide textbooks for 24 students, a new student computer, two semesters of citizenship classes or training for 12 new tutors.
We'll share more information and links through newsletters and social media as Giving Tuesday approaches. If you don't already follow us on Facebook or Twitter, check us out for regular updates. Invite your friends to follow us too! With your help, we can continue to address the ever-growing need for literacy services in our area.
