Dear University of Oregon students,
To our new students, welcome to the University of Oregon and the city of Eugene.
To our returning students, welcome home! We are so happy to have you back on campus and in the classroom.
I want to take a moment during this first week of the term to introduce myself. My name is Angela Lauer Chong, and I am your new Vice President for Student Life. My family and I moved across the country to be a part of the Duck family and contribute to this amazing university.
The UO is a special place, and I am falling in love with our aspirations, commitment to creating a flourishing community, and the incredible natural beauty! I find myself reflecting with gratitude daily on the path that brought me here, and I hope you do as well.
As we are starting the term together, I wanted to offer a few words to our student community.
I invite you to dive in and explore all that is available to you. Looking for clubs and organizations? Need help finding your way around? Want someone to talk to about making connections? We can help. I also encourage you to find out more about our wrap-around student support services available on the One Stop Student Resources page, and find ways to define your Duck experience on the Division of Student Life website.
The UO has a long and proud history of engaging with the issues of the day and supporting members of our community to exercise their right to free expression. We also take seriously the responsibility of providing education in an environment free from harassment, threat, or bias. Campus policies, education and training, and resources and services all serve to foster an inclusive and healthy community. I invite you to explore the university's free expression website to familiarize yourself with the policies and resources available.
Finally, I encourage you to support your fellow student athletes and teams—they have had a phenomenal start this season! There is simply nothing like the energy and camaraderie of cheering for our Ducks. Remember, part of being a fan is demonstrating positive and respectful behavior to one another, and our guests. Additional information about what to expect at home football games will come out later this week.
This is such an incredible time to be a student at the University of Oregon. Enjoy every minute, and go Ducks!
My very best,
Angela Lauer Chong, JD
