A former Fort Wayne area radio GM recently died. Ken Allen lead what was then Talk/WNUY (100.1fm, Bluffton) from late 2008 until the end of May 2010. Beyond the usual talk programming, Mr. Allen also emphasized play by play sports on the Wells County station and used a new computer program (Skype) to deliver remote audio from area high school sporting events. Mr. Allen was 55.

Bair Communications' Hot AC/WROI (92.1fm, Rochester) adds morning host Jon Bowen. Mr. Bowen last worked in Taylorville, Illinois for Miller Media. There, he did news and sports. Mr. Bowen graduated from The University of Indianapolis in 2017.

Dept. of Corrections: I managed to misread the date on this: it was from 2014. My apologies. A news crew from Nexstar's FOX affiliate WXIN-TV (Channel 59, Indianapolis) was recently held up at gunpoint…
Where Are They Now? Former WISH-TV Executive Producer Mike Schram becomes News Director at WDIO-TV in Duluth, Minnesota.

Alpha Media's Urban/WGZB (96.5fm, Lanesville) PD/Afternoon host Juan Hustle exits. Mr. Hustle had prior Indiana radio experience at WHHH (96.3fm, Indianapolis) doing weekends, and WXXB (102.9fm, Delphi) as weekends and morning producer.

October 20: In 2014, WKUZ (95.9fm, Wabash) dropped its AC format and flipped to a country music format.
October 21: In 1962, 100.5fm in Kokomo signs on as WFKO. Today, it's WWKI. In 2016, WBAA (920am, West Lafayette) added an FM translator (W290CM) at 105.9fm.
October 22: In 1940, 1450am in Vincennes signs on as WAOV, and still is. In 2001, WMYS (1430am, Indianapolis) flips format from Standards to Talk (WXNT).
October 23: In 1924, 1130am in Indianapolis signs on as WFBM. It later moved to 1330am (1927), 1090am (1928), 1230am (1929) and after NARBA in 1941: 1260am. Today, it's WNDE. In 2014, former WPTA-TV Fort Wayne VP/GM Ed Metcalfe died at age 96.
October 24: In 2002, WXKE (103.9fm, Fort Wayne) flips format from Rock ("Rock 104") to AC as WYLT ("My 103.9"). In 2003, WENS (97.1fm, Shelbyville) became a Hot AC as "Real 97.1." In 2016, veteran Terre Haute DJ Matt Luecking died. Age 44.
October 25: In 1979, WNDU-FM (92.9fm, South Bend) drops their hit parade format, and launches as Top 40/"U93".

WICR Radio at the University of Indianapolis is accepting applications for a Director of Engineering. This is a full-time, exempt staff position. The Director of Engineering (DOE) oversees the technical operations of WICR-FM, its HD channels, and Internet streams. The position holder is also the Designated Chief Operator for WICR Radio according to the requirements of the Federal Communications Commission and, as such, is responsible for ensuring the station complies with applicable FCC rules and regulations. The DOE is responsible for developing short and long-term facility plans, recruiting and teaching a student staff, facilitating equipment maintenance, and providing technical support, as needed, for television and the communication department.
Three years of broadcast engineering or related experience is required. This includes experience with and knowledge of FCC Rules and Regulations as they pertain to licensing and operating a full-power FM/HD radio station, radio frequency transmission and reception systems; and computer networks, operating, and digital audio systems. Experience teaching/training/managing staff members on the proper operation of radio studio and transmission equipment is also required. Candidates must have obtained a bachelor's degree in communication, telecommunications, media or a related field.
